Good analysis… |
Can’t argue with facts. Does not sound like any public school bias. Sounds like a bias toward great players. The Cap ‘25 blue team is filled with great players since it’s ranked #3 in country. And their commitment list bears this out. If those girls aren’t going to UVA to play it’s because they don’t want to. UVA is not the be-all end-all for most of these girls. They go to the camps of the schools they are interested in and I guarantee UVA would have loved to get one or two of them. Clearly the girls weren’t interested. |

| Well, if UVA was great at recruiting they probably wouldn’t be ranked way down at 18 in USA LAX’s Way Too Early rankings. |
Some areas (Long Island) have very few private schools and public is typically the default. Others (CT) are so upper class, that the public schools are pseudo private schools. |
The fact UVA is a top 20 program would say they're excellent at recruiting. Why so mad? JMU isn't UVA but still a good school. |
|
UVA is an elite academic school and there are certainly some talented lax players who can’t get in.
|
Not a lot of those on players Capital. These girls are generally pretty smart. Plus state schools have much lower standards for athletes. UVA is not like the Ivy league, Stanford, Duke, Hopkins, ND, NW, or other academically elite and T25 lacrosse schools that require wlax recruits to meet set academic standards. It’s very different than standard admissions. There are of course schools that are T25 who have both similar and lower standards than UVA. |
Here are the facts: The one Virginia D1 school ranked higher than UVA, and with more recent success, is JMU. In recent years, it’s in state public school recruiting looks like this: Robinson 1, Riverside 1, Langley 2, Battlefield 1, Lake Braddock 1, Oakton 3, Woodson 1, Kettle Run 1, James Madison 1, Douglas Freeman 1. If these players were recruited to a perennial top 10 team that has a fairly recent national championship to its credit, you can’t credibly argue that UVA is equally active in looking for in state talent. |
JMU had 9 players from the 2023 team that made 1st or 2nd team All Conf. None were in state VA kids. Teams are going to recruit where the talent is, period. |
Again, JMU isn't UVA ... sorry she didn't get any love, but she'll still have fun. |
That is not merit. That is need based. |
I think this is a good point. The need based thresold is low, we typically think of HHI over 150K not getting AID but this is not the case based on my knowledge at Ivys, someone can correct me if I am wrong. Also, can someone clarify. If you make too much for need based, couldn't you just have your adult kid be responsible for $$, therefore you should meet the need based easily? |
If it were that easy don’t you think EVERYONE would do that? I mean come on.
