Here are the facts: The one Virginia D1 school ranked higher than UVA, and with more recent success, is JMU. In recent years, it’s in state public school recruiting looks like this: Robinson 1, Riverside 1, Langley 2, Battlefield 1, Lake Braddock 1, Oakton 3, Woodson 1, Kettle Run 1, James Madison 1, Douglas Freeman 1. If these players were recruited to a perennial top 10 team that has a fairly recent national championship to its credit, you can’t credibly argue that UVA is equally active in looking for in state talent. JMU had 9 players from the 2023 team that made 1st or 2nd team All Conf. None were in state VA kids. Teams are going to recruit where the talent is, period.[/quote]
