I don't have any student loans but it's my understand the federal ones can fall off after 10 years (of successful payments?)?

No, I’m not paying 10 more years

Sounds like you think freebies are the way to attract young voters?

I think young people are less likely to be duped by the vote buying tactics that have become such a big part of the political strategies of the Republican and Democratic parties.

Here's hoping.

Like the "freebies" given to Republican members of Congress?

"Reps. Vern Buchanan of Florida, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, and Markwayne Mullin and Kevin Hern of Oklahoma — who it said had six- and seven-figure PPP loans forgiven as part of a federal program intended to help those harmed by the coronavirus."

Under Biden's student debt plan, borrowers who earn less than $125,000 a year, or $250,000 for couples who file taxes jointly, will be eligible for up to $10,000 in debt cancellation.

I've seen lots of young people who are livid, because they thought that 10k out of their 100k they owe in loans might be forgiven and might help them save enough money to eventually get a house downpayment.

Keep on helping GOP congress critters and forgiving their SIX TO SeVEN FIGURE loans and see how that works out. I mean, there's enough money Mike Kelly (R) had 987k in loans forgiven. That sum could have helped *987* younger Americans who make under 150k a year.

But, no, you just want the money for republicans and for the wealthy. We understand perfectly.

I think that is if you are in certain government or community service jobs.
The delays of payment with COVID, actually didn't delay these payments. Each delay was counted as a $0 payment and one of the required 120 payments.

Those PPP loans were designed to be forgiven. Student loans not so much.

I have to point out that Democratic members of Congress also took PPP loans.

A handful of businesses associated with Democratic lawmakers collected millions of dollars worth of Paycheck Protection Program loans after it was revealed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband also benefited from the stimulus deal.

Companies linked to Reps. Matt Cartwright (D. Pa), Conor Lamb (D. Pa), TJ Cox (D. Calif) and Harley Rouda (D. Calif) received coronavirus loans, as did the family law firm of New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Brindisi, according to the data released by the Small Business Administration on Monday.

Businesses linked to Cox collected up to $1.7 million in federal bailouts. His Madera nut processing factory received a loan between $100,000 and $350,000, as did an assisted living center of which he still has a financial stake worth up to $1 million, SBA and financial disclosure filings show.

An affordable housing firm where the Democratic congressman was listed as director in 2019 also got between $350,000 to $1 million from the federal government, but a spokesperson said he resigned as director last year.

https://nypost.com/2020/07/09/firms-tied-to-democratic-reps-their-spouses-got-millions-in-ppp-loans/

Having said that, PPP funds were to help the employees who were furloughed and had no income during the shut down imposed by the government.
Comparing student loans to the PPP program is a desperate attempt to deflect.
People who take out student loans CHOOSE to take them and sign stating they know the terms of the loan.

No one is “hating” anyone here. This is about who has the authority for this level of spending, Congress or Biden.

I disagree. There is plenty of hatred, and it is mostly coming from a bunch of spoiled women who are some of the most privileged people in the world. But instead of being happy with what they have, they are acting like greedy miserable old hags and moaning about someone less fortunate than them getting something. Yuck.

Disagreement isn’t hate.

Well, they are insufferable people nonetheless.

Insufferable people can be right about the law.

They can be wrong too, just like the Supreme Court was. Weakest finding of standing in the history of jurisprudence. And BTW, right or wrong, they still have to look in the mirror every day, and the picture will not be pretty.

But they aren’t wrong and neither was the courty. Even Pelosi disagrees with you.

They were wrong to find standing in this case. Pelosi never said anything about that. Law 101, there must be standing to sue before the merits of a case are considered.

Pretty weak to have an unconstitutional executive power grab, and the supporters are just arguing over standing, with the executive doing creative changes just to avoid being having their illegal schemes rejected by the court. We will not force any individuals to accept this relief, so now they can't sue us!

I think anyone with half a brain knew the student loan forgiveness plan was never going anywhere. It was clearly just a vote buy tactic ahead of the 2022 mid terms aimed at people in their 30s to 40s that may otherwise typically not vote in a mid term election. Not rocket science folks. Also, not picking on Biden specifically. It's what you have to do as a politician under the rule of the RNC or DNC. Sorry, political truths hurt sometimes.

Nobody is ignoring them.
In fact, the GOP is the party that has crafted bills to deal with the high cost of college and dealing with student debt.

You’ve been raised by helicopter parents who gave you the white glove treatment your entire lives, then get shocked when you’re thrown out into the real world where you learn nobody owes you nothin’, you are not entitled to anything, and you’re not special. Nobody owes you free money to borrow for college with 0% interest rates, lol. Nobody owes you student loan forgiveness, lol. You signed a contract like an adult, now live up to the agreement.

And stop comparing to the PPP. It’s really stupid. The PPP was there because the govt forced businesses to close and shutdown the whole economy. That much govt intervention into private industry required the govt to compensate business owners. If we did nothing we would have been sent back to the Great Depression. Contrast that to student loans. No one owes you anything because you stupidly choose to go to an expensive ass private Podunk U for a worthless social justice degree with an underwater basket weaving minor. We all know you probably also used your student loans to fund living in a swanky apartment complex senior year and used part of it to fund your stupid Friday night bar crawls and spring break trips.

Rather than forgive loans, we should really be removing the govt altogether from student loans and give out zero student loans. If students can’t get money easily then college will get hammered and have to reduce costs and tuition. The economy wouldn’t be hurt that bad either, because 90% of degrees are worthless anyway. Whatever would we do without art degrees, english majors, and gender studies grads? Omg!

Pay your own damn bills.

So only spoiled rich kids like yours can go to college and screw everyone else who can’t pay out of pocket? Let them eat cake, right? People like you are why this country disgusts me.

No. Why didn’t you go to community college or enlist versus leveraging yourself to the hilt on a degree that you want the taxpayers to pay for now?

Why don’t you send your kids to community college or to the military if you think it’s such a great idea?

People with more money have more choices. This is true in education, housing, cars, travel, clothing, enterntainment. We don't all get to live in a mansion to make it "fair." We don't all get to go to private college for free to make it "fair." Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

Yes and they’re hoping that if they use enough insults about the people who need loan forgiveness that we won’t notice.

Guarantee these are the same people who think not eating avocado toast will buy people a house and that they’re the same people who will be moaning about lowered birth rates without a trace of awareness.
