Nobody owes you free money to borrow for college with 0% interest rates, lol. Nobody owes you student loan forgiveness, lol. You signed a contract like an adult, now live up to the agreement.

And stop comparing to the PPP. It’s really stupid. The PPP was there because the govt forced businesses to close and shutdown the whole economy. That much govt intervention into private industry required the govt to compensate business owners. If we did nothing we would have been sent back to the Great Depression. Contrast that to student loans. No one owes you anything because you stupidly choose to go to an expensive ass private Podunk U for a worthless social justice degree with an underwater basket weaving minor. We all know you probably also used your student loans to fund living in a swanky apartment complex senior year and used part of it to fund your stupid Friday night bar crawls and spring break trips.

Rather than forgive loans, we should really be removing the govt altogether from student loans and give out zero student loans. If students can’t get money easily then college will get hammered and have to reduce costs and tuition. The economy wouldn’t be hurt that bad either, because 90% of degrees are worthless anyway. Whatever would we do without art degrees, english majors, and gender studies grads? Omg!

Pay your own damn bills.

So only spoiled rich kids like yours can go to college and screw everyone else who can’t pay out of pocket? Let them eat cake, right? People like you are why this country disgusts me.

The majority of college degrees are worthless. Omg, big whooop, spoiled rich kids are the only ones who can get philosophy degrees so that they can land a barista job for $11/h after they get out. So much loss!

Well, by your weird measure, every paper pusher in the DMV, probably including you, has a “useless” degree.

Now you know why DC is a swamp.

No. Why didn’t you go to community college or enlist versus leveraging yourself to the hilt on a degree that you want the taxpayers to pay for now?

Why don’t you send your kids to community college or to the military if you think it’s such a great idea?

My nephew died in Iraq.

I am sorry for your family’s loss.

I remember student loan trolls in here claiming they were going to have their kids take out loans and get forgiveness rather than contribute to a 529. Now we are going to have an oligarchy where only those with 529 accounts will benefit from a college degree.

Because lending people money costs money.

If I have 100 bucks and put it in a bank, I will make interest. Or I could use it to start a business or anything else that creates money.

If I give it to you, and you pay me back 4 years later, I will lose both the money that I could have made, and the original value due to inflation.

Why does this not apply when the money is used on your education?

No, it doesn't. Usury only exists to prey on people. The government creates money. Gov student loans are from thin air. There is no need to prey on borrowers with usury on top of principal. It's just one big scam keep a boot on the neck of the proles.

Is this what you learned in college? Why am I paying your loans back?

Anything which turns younger people away from the GOP is fine with me. Keep on going Supreme Court and MAGA governors.

Judging by your grammar, the GOP seems like the perfect fit for you.

Nearly 20 million out of the 45 million borrowers do not have a degree. They are all poor white, Black and brown kids who never completed their associate's or bachelor's. Meanwhile, you right wing trolls support Tom Brady and the NBA's LA Lakers and every rich guy in America scamming PPP to swing themselves record-breaking bonuses and stock buybacks.

So other words, nearly 50% of borrowers were too stupid to finish an undergraduate but went out of their way to borrow huge amounts of money on their own accord.

More evidence yet the government needs to get the hell out the student loan business altogether and should give out zero student loans. A lot of C- to D average students (after you take away grade inflation) are delusional enough to think they have the intellectual capability to finish college. We shouldn't be pushing them to college in the first place. They should learn trades, manufacturing, or can pick food on farms.

If this statement is true (and I'm not saying it's false), then those kids should have been counseled towards another field of learning that is a better fit for their skills and abilities.

Wouldn't simply raising the Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) plan PLUS auto opt-in PLUS the debts falling off after 10 years (or whatever) be a way to give de facto relief to the same people who would have qualified for this?

I don't have any student loans but it's my understand the federal ones can fall off after 10 years (of successful payments?)?

It's true. About half of the people who enroll in 2- and 4-year colleges never graduate.
