She doesn't need curves. She's tall with gorgeous shoulders and striking features. Not everyone is trying to look like the same ideal. It's okay for people to look like perfect versions of themselves.

She looks like a teenage boy in a dress. There’s no real waist and she doesn’t have hips. It’s really unflattering. Her look is all forehead and flatness.

Agree to disagree. I think you just don't like her body type, which is fine, but it's not her job to make her body look different than it is. Like I don't look at a really busty actress and think "wow that dress does not sufficiently flatten her chest enough -- you can tell she has big boobs." Your body is your body.

Most people realize you must embrace your body and dress it appropriately. You play up your best features, and you strategically select styles to accent or mitigate other features. The dress was a miss. If Fashion Police was still around, I’m sure they would have said she has a terrific slender frame and a statuesque body but she should have worn something to create a waist and the illusion of curves.

You are right that's what the Fashion Police would have said. They also would have fat shamed a lot of size 8 actresses. That type of fashion criticism has been rightly criticized for constantly asking women to "hide" the natural shape of their bodies in search of an ideal that essentially doesn't exist.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, and if you don't like it, that's fine. But what we are saying is that I could care less that this dress makes her look flat chested and straight up and down. In fact, I kind of like that it does -- that is what her body looks like and it's part of her charm, IMO.

I'm laughing at this because as someone who loved ballet, that flat-chested straight look was always my goal. To this day I don't think a woman needs generous "curves" to be beautiful. We have learned to celebrate bodies that would once have been called vulgar. Why can't we celebrate bodies all along the spectrum?

+1, it's like skin color -- literally any shade of skin can be beautiful, and the same is true for sizes and shapes of bodies. I think people become obsessed with a "standard" and then want to bring everyone into line with that standard but then you miss the beauty in the full range. I don't want Lizzo to dress to minimize her body's shape and I don't want Phoebe Wallers-Bridge to do so either. They are both beautiful, dynamic, talented women who seem to love fashion and beauty. I don't want them to look the same, I want to enjoy the unique things each brings to the table.

I think this choice was all about the color and quality of the fabric near her face. The dress itself isn't doing anything for her body except making her look tall, but I also think we all know what her body looks like at this point, right? She's one of those actors who has basically nothing to prove. But the color of the top of the dress paired with her eyes, skin, and hair (plus the earrings) is pure ice queen. And I bet she was super comfortable all night, too. This might not be the most exciting or interesting look of the night, but I fully respect it.

I think people are just disappointed because we all know she can deliver insanely good fashion moments and she decided instead to go low key and comfortable and coast. But I also think she's earned the right to do that.

Are people just saying they like Malala's dress because it's incorporates a head covering? I think the dress itself is boring, which is unsurprising because it's Ralph Lauren. Don't get me wrong, I love/respect Malala and I'm glad she found something she enjoyed wearing. But I think the dress is dull and I feel like I've seen a version of it many times before. It's a sparkly dress with a hood. Snore. I've seen Muslim women incorporate head coverings into high fashion evening wear in much more interesting ways than this.
