She does indeed. They are so perfect.

This is perfection!

Really? I love the unusual color, but I really had the shoulder pad vibe.

I think that angle is a bit unfortunate because of how they are holding hands. She did a good job with finding the good angles on the red carpet to carry off the super broad shoulders -- it looks much better here in this solo pic, and in other photos where she's actually posing:

She’s a beautiful woman with a nice figure, but that dress looks like it belongs on an older woman. She has too much going for her to hide under all that fabric.

I like how not-try-hard this is, though. She’d have looked great with a slit up her thigh or cutouts, etc. (Cara Delevingne was one of my favorite looks) too. If I had Idris Elba on my arm I’d be tempted to show up in sweats just cause I could.

She really is a true goddess. From a fashion perspective the dress is fine. I envision something else.

She does, but she looked SO uncomfortable in that cringey Jimmy Kimmel schtick just now.
Also, she really seems to be pushing the limits of what is a hijab. Much of her hair is visible.

Well, given that she got her face blown off by the Taliban, I'm going to give her a pass on that. She gets to choose now. She always did.

I love her but I simply wonder at what statement she is making with a half head cover.

She is making the statement that she can practice her religion as she wishes and cover or not cover her hair as she wishes. Which is a right all women have. You should rethink, PP. the feminist line on hijabs is that women choose to cover themselves. If it’s a choice, then they can do it or not, without judgment. That’s for all women but especially someone who was attacked for promoting women’s education.

Yeah, and she has aged really really well.

Agree on the aging, this dress feels robotic to me, though.

I love Jennifer Connelly and would watch her in almost anything, but I think she's tended a bit toward robotic. She looks like she's gained a few pounds and it looks GREAT on her as she's been painfully thin for awhile. She needs to knock off fillers/surgery. She's tipping into Nicole Kidman territory. Her hair and makeup are great with this dress, but I feel like it's the same look I've seen for awhile. Let your hair down Jennifer!

Kidman

I thing Kidman can always be relied upon to look great. I don't love 100% of her looks but she has very few pure misses. What she does is manage to keep her hair and makeup fresh. She really mixes it up.

Her height and build make anything look good.

Loved her look last night with the tweed suit look.

I would have liked this more if it was simply sleeveless on both sides. I don't care for the one long sleeve. She looks great though.

Her hair is terrible.

Her hair and makeup are so understated tonight. Last night at a pre party her hair and makeup were full glam. And really pretty.

I think Nicole always looks gorgeous in the full head-to-toe shot. But up close and especially in interviews, her face is just a mess and you can see all the procedures plus the places where things have shifted in weird ways. It's really sad to me. I'm not against procedures at all (especially understand it for women who are on screen for a living), but she has always had this ethereal beauty and part of me would have liked to see how that aged without quite so much intervention. I think she made the bargain of trying to stay 35 for ever and it only works from a distance. I'd like to know what she looks like as a very well-preserved 50-something instead.

Also, all the straightening and bleaching has absolutely wrecked her hair. You can see how thin and straggly it is in this updo.

I have long thought that she's totally gray/white under the dye. That's a lot of upkeep and her hair might be getting thinner/finer with age as well.

Why do women need to be half naked to look beautiful? I, for one, find it refreshing that a beautiful women opted for a classy, elegant dress. She still looks amazing. You don't need to have your entire body exposed to be attractive. Good for her.

I like her hair but that's it. I might like that dress if it were just a little more substantial and structured. I have no trouble with sex appeal and showing skin on the red carpet (and this was for the after party, not the awards, so looser dress code) but this honestly looks like it's about to fall off her. It's like a tacky boudoir photo shoot outfit.

Also, while I do like the style of her hair, the color doesn't work with the colors of the dress. Going reddish and then wearing a lemon-lime outfits just feels like a big miss to me.

She also looks either high or drunk and given her history with alcohol, I wonder what's going on there.

Actually she looks great. This was not a miss for me. And she doesn’t look drunk. She’s been very upfront about her sobriety. Besides, she has a 3-month old baby that she’s nursing, so if anything, she’s simply tired.

I don't like the color and I question the feathers, overall she looks fantastic. And I want her hair/hairstyle.

I disagree about the hair. Way too harsh and makes her look like a pointy eared alien. That severe dark slick back with her smaller head bone structure does not look good and she's a beautiful woman.

Yes. She looked gorgeous.

Kind of boring, though. I'm not sure white is the best color for her.

Redheads actually go platinum blonde, not grey, as they age so that might be close to her natural color now. I do think that she wrecked her hair with all the years of dye and straightening which is a shame because it was so gorgeous naturally. For such a successful actress she has always seemed to me to be one of insecure—when you see interviews with her, she seems very shy with nervous laughter, not really comfortable in her skin. I see it all of one piece with the plastic surgery and the Scientology marriage disaster. Katie Holmes is not the fancy movie star Nicole is, but she knew how to divorce a power house and walk away the winner.

Disagree. She has no curves, so this straight dress isn’t flattering.

She doesn't need curves. She's tall with gorgeous shoulders and striking features. Not everyone is trying to look like the same ideal. It's okay for people to look like perfect versions of themselves.

She looks like a teenage boy in a dress. There’s no real waist and she doesn’t have hips. It’s really unflattering. Her look is all forehead and flatness.

Agree to disagree. I think you just don't like her body type, which is fine, but it's not her job to make her body look different than it is. Like I don't look at a really busty actress and think "wow that dress does not sufficiently flatten her chest enough -- you can tell she has big boobs." Your body is your body.

Well said, PP. She looks beautiful here, and she’s under no obligation to look like Barbie. PP is a sad, strange little fashion victim.

?

Most people realize you must embrace your body and dress it appropriately. You play up your best features, and you strategically select styles to accent or mitigate other features. The dress was a miss. If Fashion Police was still around, I’m sure they would have said she has a terrific slender frame and a statuesque body but she should have worn something to create a waist and the illusion of curves.

You are right that's what the Fashion Police would have said. They also would have fat shamed a lot of size 8 actresses. That type of fashion criticism has been rightly criticized for constantly asking women to "hide" the natural shape of their bodies in search of an ideal that essentially doesn't exist.

You are of course entitled to your opinion, and if you don't like it, that's fine. But what we are saying is that I could care less that this dress makes her look flat chested and straight up and down. In fact, I kind of like that it does -- that is what her body looks like and it's part of her charm, IMO.

I'm laughing at this because as someone who loved ballet, that flat-chested straight look was always my goal. To this day I don't think a woman needs generous "curves" to be beautiful. We have learned to celebrate bodies that would once have been called vulgar. Why can't we celebrate bodies all along the spectrum?

I know I'm a day late to this, but man I LOVE this! And I love her hair, and I love her smile.

+1 from a flat chested woman who has seen way too many comments shaming women for lacking curves. Critiquing women goes in all directions, you have to have curves, not too many, not too little, and if you fall outside the spectrum, you must dress in a way that casts the illusion that you have the ideal.
