Florida bans AP African-American Studies course from schools

I wonder how many racist school districts across the US don't offer an AP African American studies class?

These area studies courses tend to be about affirmation of certain political views rather than scholarship.

That being said, I also believe in the generalized value of free speech and a market place of ideas, so I am not thrilled with DeSantis banning them, either.

When people accuse you of being racist and you claim not to know why, think back to this sentence about an actual AP course that was created by scholars and historians about AA history and how you, without knowing anything about the course beyond what Fox told you, decided that it was just political and not at all informative or educational, that it wasn’t scholastic.

DP. You are lying through your teeth. PP above simply had to read the many red flags shared by others in this thread, or quickly scan the proposed syllabus, to see the political agenda at play.

When people accuse you of being racist and dumb, just reread your own message above.

How to say "I am a racist" without using the words.

I know there is a separate thread on the book banning, but sharing here as I'd say it's related to Florida's general trend toward fascism w/ regard to education.

DP to add, technically the Bible violates this policy, so will Florida remove all copies from schools? Conservatives on this thread, what's your take?

A lot of the curriculum looks like Progressive doctrine, especially with the random inclusion of LGBTQ topics. You don't need to be a Fox News watcher to see the red flags. A look into African American history should be better balanced. Heck, according to Pew Research, the majority of black adults (59%) and Democrats (62%) don't even support affirmative action.

Feels like African American studies viewed through the lens of Progressives.

A he conservatives on this thread don’t seem to value African American studies at all. And why are you bringing up affirmative action?

Activists are already reporting it and requesting that it be banned

The resulting court cases should involve some interesting mental contortions

DP here who's not a conservative. Let me answer that for you. The PP is bringing up affirmative action because the core issue for conservatives--the thing that they feel at an instinctive, almost cellular level --is that they don't want someone else getting something that they think is theirs such as a job, a scholarship, or admissions to a good college. Ditto the topic of reparations.

Good. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

I'm still waiting to hear a serious comment from a conservative on this forum. I know they're here.

Do you agree or disagree that Florida's law means that the Bible should be banned from schools? If not, why do you make an exception for the Bible (please write out with serious logic not just gaslighting/jokes/changing the topic)?

His new edict is terrifying. He wants to end unanimity in jury trials for murder. This is a bridge too far.
