His books are great. Rarely does any movie do the book justice. Some characters they’ve changed their race and sexual preference.

Why do people expect all movies to be Oscar worthy? I mean sometimes I just want to watch something superficial. Have nice people to look at, not too serious, no thinking involved, just follow a story like a mystery. I love Succession. I love A Room With A View. I love Marvel movies. But not all movies are going to be high caliber. Some nights I love Harlan ones. Fool Me Once was great in this regard. People are waaaaaay too serious. It’s damn entertainment. It can have plot holes as long as it’s moving right along. Boredom needs to be avoided and as long as it keeps moving, I’m all good! |
I agree OP trash! |
His books are mega bestsellers. |
Probably goes back to money. He can make a lot of money. Netflix doesn’t like to spend a lot of money. People are going to watch regardless. |
* i.e. low production budget |
The story was 'meh' but the lead is good. I liked "Stay Close" the best. Stars Cush Jumbo and Richard Armitage. Did take me an ep or two to get into it. |
^^also, loved James Nesbitt in this one. |
I like them even knowing they are a bit rubbish. I go in with low expectations and treat them as guilty pleasure tv! |
Eddie Izzard was in "Stay Close" as well, loved his character. |
I couldn’t even make it through the whole first episode. The characters felt really one dimensional. The dialogue didn’t sound anything like how people actually talk. All the settings were too aesthetically perfect and didn’t have any sort of real feel to them. I like shows with characters who feel like real people in real settings. This was maybe a step up from a crappy network-y drama. But clearly based on the fact these books sell like hotcakes at the airports and keep getting turned into television shows means there is a strong market for this. I am just not it. |
Only one was good can't remember the name of the show but the guy who played Dexter was in it maybe it was safe? Anyway the rest were really stupid and a waste of time. It's really hard to find good things to watch lately I've been having a hard time finding engaging shows and movies that I like. Maybe it's just my deep depression. |
It’s quick easy and fast money for everyone involved from Harlan to Netflix executives to everyone in between. The fast money at a low-cost, results in a slightly low budget feel. |
I feel seen and heard by some of the posts in this thread and by OP lol.
I have never read the books or even really cared about Harlan Coben's name, but when I see a murder mystery setup I want to like it. Murder mysteries are my favorite. But it's like every Harlan Coben thing I try is utter bulls**t. It's grifter garbage from someone who is obviously a huge fake and grifter himself. |
