Why are all the Harlan Coben shows so awful?

He's a terrible writer, with his boomer cultural identity expressed on every page, but for the many who like twisty plots his books are entertaining enough. I used to listen to his audiobooks while taking long walks but I finally couldn't take the 10-page reminiscences about an ex-girlfriend's ponytail and stopped. I had hoped that the tv series would cut the extraordinary amount of filler and be enjoyable in that respect but they mostly haven't worked. The first episode of So Close was beyond dull, but I might try the second to see if it improves. Hard to imagine a series with Cush Jumbo and Richard Armitage wouldn't be good but...

the tv shows all have a great twist at the end, you think they are gonna be good, but turn out shite

I thought Shelter was actually the first decent HV adaptation, then it was cancelled!

Since the characters exist mostly as vehicles for those plot twists, it’s hard for actors in service to the narratives to give convincing performances. I do like that they are adapting different books to various foreign locations with international casts.

Right.

I was astonished when one of my favorite mystery editors flagged him as a favorite author.

I know the one.

I started reading him on her assessment, but boy, did not agree. Win Lockwood was the biggest deus ex machina I'd ever seen.

The new one on Netflix is actually pretty solid. The female lead and the detective are great. Another Richard Armitage appearance.

Watching "Fool Me Once" on Netflix now. So far, it seems intriguing.

Normally I can figure out the twist, but this is a good one. Enjoy!

Oooh I’m gonna try Fool me Once now.
Never even heard of it but I’ve liked all his other stuff.

Watched Fool Me once , watch a pile of shit, so many plot holes and not needed plot twists.

8 episodes of mainly the lead character driving around from one place to another to uncover a tiny snippet of information, it could have been done in 4 episodes.

Then finding out what the whole story was about in the last 2 episodes, so in essence it's very fluffed out with pointless crap.

Welcome to the world of Harlan Coban!

I heard he was too hands-on with the books being made into movies/tv shows and that's why they don't translate well to the screen. A book writer is different from a TV/movie script writer. What works in one medium doesn't always work in the other and he doesn't get that. I heard he gets final say on scripts.

It's his daughter now.
