Have you given up on loosing weight? Ugh, midlife fat doesn’t go away.

How is everyone getting their exercise in? I still have a kid too young to be vaccinated so haven't gone back to the gym.

You might be hypothyroid.

Do bloodwork.

I had the opposite happen: hyperthyroidism. I was looking goood at 57… but losing hair and always hot. Started the treatment for Graves Disease in April and the weight gain is real. Sucks.

Walks, weights and youtube videos.

It's possible, but it's hard work. I lost 20 pounds a few years ago - then gained back 30 over Covid - and now working it off again. Some of the weight gain was due to medication and I am no longer on it so it's coming off finally. I like NOOM for counting calories If I exceed 1200 calories a day for multiple days I gain - it's that simple - so I only drink 1 day a week (down from nightly wine at points during Covid). Also work out with weights 3 days a week and cardio (run/walk 4 miles or more) 2 days a week. Feel better and can't wait to hit my goal weight. Slow, steady and healthy is my motto. Yeah - it kinda sucks but I really didn't like being 30 pounds overweight.

I yo-yo: put in the work, lose the weight, stop working, gain it back.

Sometimes I just don't want to weigh, measure, and count calories, I just want to eat and be social, and choose fat and happy. Until I cannot fit into even my fat clothes anymore, and so, I do the work (counting, weighing, measuring), and lose the weight.

Does it ever not seem like work? Not for me, and so, the yo-yoing continues.

The only thing that has worked for me is less variety in my food. I eat the same thing every day for breakfast (oatmeal with yogurt for protein and fruit) and for lunch (rice and beans with a veggie), only fruit for snacks, and then eat whatever is made for dinner - my husband does the cooking - but I’m conscious about portion sizes. You can make the rice and beans in advance over the weekend which helps for workday, whether going into an office or not. Alcohol no more than twice a week, usually once. I’ll break from the pattern on special occasions but that plus both cardio and weights have kept me from gaining 30 lbs in my late 50s. I HAVE gained about 8.

I've given up wine and sugar. Never was big on sugar to begin with, but now realize that what little I did still consume goes straight to my belly area. I'm focusing on strength training to maintain my weight.

Lift weights. Walking is great but needs to be in combination with weight lifting.

I’m 52 and started Noom in April. I’ve lost 35 lbs and I would have described myself the same as you so it is possible.

I didn’t think I ate badly but I work from home and tend to graze all day. Tracking the calories regularly and unfailingly is the only way I've done it. Still have another 25 lbs to get to my goal.

I’m the same weight I was at 16. The only time I gained was during pregnancy. I have had to change the way I eat as I’ve aged. People who stay fit and healthy through middle age and beyond are typically health conscious and not fooled by ridiculous fad dieting.

Naah, while maintaining weight throughout makes sense, that doesn't really happen. Menopause kills it. You aren't fully through it.

Not buying it. And you were menopausal at 52. I was menopausal at 56. That's when it all happened...at 60. Come back here in a year or 2 and we will chat. No one, I mean no one, escapes this unless one works out hours a day. Not sustainable. Btw, if you have clients, and you say those things you have and/or will lose a lot of credibility. Everyone will know you live in an orbit that isn't real world. Shaming doesn't work.

I will also mention that I walk 4 to 6 miles a day, am a vegetarian, weight train, and barely ever go beyond 1200 to 1500 calories. No snacking, no sodas, hardly any sugary crap...once in a while, birthday party, a dinner out, etc. No juices, no cookies, cakes, chips, etc. And yet..
