Loudoun Premier Cup

Anonymous
The tournament wasn’t intended for Loudoun’s top teams. Loudoun has 2-5 teams at all ages. This tournament is clearly intended for the teams that are not at the top. They should have tournament opportunities as well. Not understanding that simple concept is “not a good look”.

Same in U14 Boys COPA Bracket. VA Union FC won 13-0 (results capped at 10) and no goals scored against them all tournament. They probably should have been placed in the Premier bracket.

Crazy. That is not good for anyone. They were tied for the worst record with BRYC in ECNL last year. Those two are going to remain there if they are getting ready for the season by playing B and C teams.

I don't understand. Is somebody betting their mortgage on 13 year olds playing soccer? If not, why the fixation with how many games a team wins in one of the toughest leagues in the country? It seems incredibly shortsighted and childish, but maybe it's just me.

I don't understand what you don't understand. Nobody is betting. Where did you get that from? If you are in a top league and want to improve, you don't play B and C and below level teams when you are ramping up to play league games.

What team and age group does your kid play for? Or are you a disgruntled coach? I'd like to know your motive for coming on here every day and ripping a bunch of kids. You're either a teenage girl who had her face glitter stolen from her locker or you're a petulant child. Tell us what your angle is. What makes your situation so much better or unique that you feel it's your duty to bash every move BRYC makes? Are you compensating for something? It's all just very odd. There are professionals who can help you work through the issues. Think about it.

Parent. I just don't like teams sandbagging. My comment was more geared towards Virginia Union than BRYC since at least BRYC was in the top bracket and the scores were competitive. I see the roles are reversed for the OBGC Captial Cup where Virginia Union is playing in the top bracket (good for them) and the BRYC team is the one sandbagging in a lower bracket.

Sometimes sandbagging isn't intentional, either. Tournament organizers sometimes simply stink at, or make mistakes when, putting brackets together. Remember the Samba Boyz from Spring?

+1 Does anybody truly believe that any club that has such lopsided scores asked to be placed where they were? If so you seriously have zero clue about how these things work. The real question is why Loudoun’s top team in most older divisions did not play in their own tournament? Not a great look especially since they could have evened out brackets and made them a bit more competitive all the way around…

The tournament director gets the final say, but yes, clubs give input on what level they think their team should play at.

Many other local clubs who hold tournaments have their own clubs top teams playing. Arlington has like 7 teams and the top teams
still play in theirs

It’s just not a good look to market a tournament to other clubs one way (elite competition at all levels) and then not show up at all levels as the hosting club….its not like the marketing told other clubs that it was a tier 2 tournament…the presumption would be that if the club is holding a tournament marketed as top notch that their top notch teams play…

which other clubs sent their top level ecnl teams?

maybe other clubs understood this, even if you personally didnt get the memo?

is it possible your presumptions were.....stay with me here......wrong?

Last year this tournament was cancelled. Two years ago was the first year and Loudoun did not send their top teams. So people that actually know about youth soccer knew this would not be a top tier tournament. What gave you the impression that this year would be different? Hopefully you don’t come back next year with the same shock, but who knows.

Loudoun’s top teams play in their early spring showcase, not this one. Yes, the club’s big enough to hold multiple tourneys per year.

Unsure about other age groups, but Loudoun Red U10B participated and got smacked around 3 times this past weekend. ouch.

Most of the top ECNL and MLS Next teams were playing in the East Coast Premier Tournament the same weekend as the Loudon Premier Cup.

Loudoun boys will more than likely continue to struggle at the tournament this weekend. They simply can not compete against top area ECNL teams.

Which age group are you talking about?

Maybe the Loudon Premier Cup isn't intended for their top teams?

I think the weaker ECNL teams do this tournament to work on things learned in practice against competition that they'll be able to execute against. When playing the top teams, the weaker teams tend to struggle and can't really work on what they've practiced. Also, the weaker ECNL teams probably attend to gain some confidence.

I find it interesting in the different styles of play where some teams like to do a high-press and capitalize on defensive mistakes (Loudon) and teams that like to load up the forward positions and have their defense lob the ball over to the forwards (BRYC) and teams that are more defensive minded, like to possess the ball and build-up as a team (McLean). They all are effective styles and just depends on which team can execute/adjust their style of play to beat their opponent.
