DD (17) says she has “baby fever”

Anonymous
Does she want to go away to college? A baby will pretty much kill that dream for the foreseeable future. Can't have a baby in your dorm room. Best she could do would be to live with you and go to community college and likely need a part time job and maybe move out when she's 25. Also will not have boyfriends for a while.

And all her friends will dump her.

I babysat and worked after high school in the toddler and infant room at a Kindercare.

I loved babies/little kids, but didn’t want one of my own at that age. I had too many plans.

Can she do that? Find a way to be around babies?

Start waking her up every two hours and ask her to make you some food.

Why are you worried? Do you think she will actually try to get some guy to impregnate her?

Sometimes I think people here just aren't very understanding of teens who want kids. DS17 has wanted kids for years. He'd never say he has baby fever, but he has made it clear that he wants to raise a family and do it sooner rather than later. He's a good student, going to college and will likely play a sport while he's there, and has friends (but no girlfriend), so it's not like he's not doing normal teen things either. But he has wanted kids for years and talks about it.

It's okay, OP. It doesn't mean she is pregnant or planning to get pregnant. It may just mean that she likes and wants kids. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

Too funny. My young teen says she has baby fever so I got her a puppy and make the puppy sleep in her room.

I don't think it's a good thing for a 17-year old to be fixated on wanting kids and a family.

Have you asked her why?

I also disagree with those telling her to babysit. She might end up with some pretty chill kids and decide she can handle it.

Just the first season or two. After that, the girls got lots of money from the show and started buying nice homes, cars, vacations, etc.

Exactly. Those "teen moms" spend TONS of money and it's definitely not a realistic portrayal of what real teen motherhood is like.

Talking about wanting something, especially something as rewarding as family, is not "fixated."

It could just mean she realized she wants to be a mother one day. Is she going to go to college?
