Dcum taught me this, and my hair never looked better.

Don't get this dryer, it will fry the hell out of your hair.

I can let my hair air dry, I can touch it, I don't fear humidity or rain. Is this how other people have been living all along? I know it's not what you asked, but this has been such a revelation for me, I wanted to share.

Will curly hair stay curly still?

When I walked out of the salon my hair was stick straight, but now my curl is back, although a little subdued. YMMV.

This is how it is for everyone. They intentionally flat iron your hair as straight as possible to maximize the effects of the treatment. After your first shampoo your hair will be curly but definitely looser, softer curls.

You have two options here. Embrace your texture and work on getting your hair hydrated and locking in that hydration with product like gel that also enhances and holds the wave. It's not complicated, but it takes time and practice to figure out what works for your hair porosity and curl pattern. That's where the curly girl method comes in.

Other option if the above doesn't sound appealing is to get better at using a hair dryer and tension to smooth and seal the cuticle. A Brazilian blowout/keratin treatment will make this easier.

I condition heavily in the shower with Dove conditioner and at the end apply a dollop to leave in. Then I apply a small amount of Aveda be curly anti-frizz serum (the small bottle with the pump). I don’t usually like drugstore brands but Dove has worked wonders for me for years.

Do not use gel, I did that for years and I didn’t realize how much it worsened the frizz. Use a high quality anti-frizz serum.

NOOOOOO! I've read articles about how this is such a hipster urban myth, and how it fries most hair. Unfortunately I read the articles after I used it myself, which was a huge fail.

I get a keratin blowout every spring. I have stopped blowdrying, except for a few minutes at the end, with NO brush. It's let my hair recover, get almost frizz-free, and also let me go blonder. I get compliments all time time again after many years.

I've used a bunch of products, but my latest is the Caviar line for "aging hair." It's perfect for DC summers. Good luck! Don't blow dry or try to make your hair straight! Plus that look ages you, despite what some DC women think (along with bleached, straight ash blonde-colored hair!).

Frizz ease never worked great for me, and I found to too sticky.

I like this one:

AG fast food

Comb through wet hair and then blow dry

No, gel doesn’t inherently worsen frizz. You may have used one or applied it in a way that didn’t work for you, but I use lots and lots of gel and have shiny frizz-free waves.

Twist by Ouidad is great for taming frizz. They have a cream that defines curls.

Can you recommend a salon?
I've only done my keratin treatment every year when i went to Asia and now can't travel there anymore. Yearly Keratin was the only thing that ever worked on my frizz.

It's a salon from a Groupon so I'm a little hesitant to recommend, but honestly my hair turned out better than when I spent $350+ at a salon in Bethesda for keratin, which was way, way too strong for my hair. The Groupon salon is Kenny & BG's in Arlington (I call it the Kenny G salon which my friend doesn't find funny).

Garnier Sleek & Shine anti frizz serum works great on my hair. It’s oily so you only need a little bit. Cheap too, under $5.

Magic Sleek or other keratin treatment every 3 months

OP here - so I've tried to "embrace" my waves, to lousy results. When I stay home I'm okay with it, but my son said it looked messy, my boss thought it looked disheveled, and hubby basically said "what are you trying to do"? Clearly it is not curly enough to legitimately look like natural curls. That leaves me with blowing it out, and frizz. Will try one of the products recommended here - thanks.

Still don't know what a Brazilian blowout is...
