When do we get data on how many teachers are vaccinated?

Why? You are still in a classroom of unvaccinated students?

Because there's a pandemic, doofus. Maybe not "much of DC" but certainly "a significant portion of the parents whose children attend DC schools." If schools were closed in major part due to safety, and the vaccine creates that safety like other mitigation can't, then not using it suggests that the school closures were about something else.

The city council required the police department to say how many cops are vaccinated. I don't understand why one group of government employees is required to report, but not another.

What will probably happen is schools with high vaccination rates will trumpet that to parents and schools with low vaccination rates will act like that information is nobody's business.

Name and shame.

Last I checked, teachers are paid with tax dollars. That gives the public the right to know if their children are being taught by some crazy anti-vaxxer.

yep. and research shows adults were major vectors for bringing covid into schools. vaccinating all adults who set foot in schools should be a #1 enforced requirement. Any other requirements (especially if the compromise access to school for kids) are complete theater.

As a parent of a student that can't yet be vaxxed, I'm comfortable not knowing the numbers of teachers that are vaccinated if DCPS does in fact make the vax mandatory for teachers and staff -- presumably if we have mandatory vaccination, the percentage would be 100% (or near it).

But, in the likely event that the vax will not be mandatory for DCPS teachers and staff, how does that increase risk for students who are not vaxxed or who are immunocompromised? What percentage of teachers not being vaxxed (40%?) seems like it's a unnecessary risk that teachers should not create for young kids?

Well I can tell you they WILL NOT require the vaccine this school year.

On what authority can you be sure DCPS will NOT require all teachers to be vaccinated? The EEOC has ruled that employers VERY WELL CAN REQUIRE employees to be vaccinated. I expect DCPS to do just that, in the very near future. I have not read any logical reason why DCPS should not do this.

I work in central office. Ferebee has made clear that the vaccine WILL NOT BE REQUIRED FOR ANY TEACHER/PRINCIPAL/AIDE/CUSTODIAN etc. They will also not require it of any student. THIS 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR.

You can write in caps all you want. So can I. It doesn’t matter what the Eeoc said. It won’t be required this school year. Next year….maybe. But not this one.

Well, that's pretty dumb (if true). Wait, strike that, its REALLY dumb . Hopefully the DC City Council will step in with a little...persuasion, because they should.

Contacting my city council person demanding data on teacher vaccinations. I’d urge you all do the same.

You are name calling without thinking this through. Nice. Your kid will be in a classroom with 20-35 other unvaccinated kids. That is a bigger issue than one teacher being vaccinated. Even if parents are vaccinated, their kids are not. You can still get covid, though rarer vaccinated. You still need smaller class sizes, social distancing and much more to make it safe for kids.

Great, and are you going to step in and teach this year?

look at the research and numbers. even after vaccination, 1/2 of covid cases in DCPS were adults - and research bears this out. adults bring covid into schools at a much higher rate. it matters a lot.

I'm so tired of this argument that if you have any criticism of teachers whatsoever, you have to teach.

Ah yes….if someone is around anyone that is unvaccinated then no one around them needs to vaccinate. The logic floors me. I see it now. If one person doesn’t get vaccinated (but can), no one should be vaccinated, by extension.

The only ones who would quit are the most militant anti-vaxxers and...good riddance.

Are anti-vaxxers cool now if they are teachers? This is the level of support we need to show teachers? Seriously?
