Every time they showed the pic of his hot wife, I was astounded that she was with him. I think he's quite homely. I figured it was a testament to his great personality. Doh.
And to clarify, Gabe claims he was fired after the consensual relationship, but his boss claims Gabe had repeated sexual harassment violations on his record. That's far more serious. |

I’m not reading any of this thread right now because it already told me what I wanted, or rather didn’t want to know. Been swamped and was looking forward to sitting down this weekend and watching the last 3 episodes of Top Chef. Really? You had to tell the winner in the title? You couldn’t have just said Top Chef Winner? Or added spoiler alert?
It’s not your fault or problem that I haven’t been able to watch till now. But you didn’t even think there may people who may not seen it yet? If someone tells you they’re going to see a movie, do you say oh that was so sad when Larla died? If not total inconsideration, it’s at the least impolite. Nah - it’s totally inconsiderate. |
Consensual? He was her boss. There’s a power dynamic there that one cannot dismiss. |
+1 and that sucks PP! But the last three episodes are great, even knowing the winner ahead of time. And now you get the added bonus of critiquing him through the lens of this newest revelation. |
From the post article. Sexual was not in the statement from Speer. What’s the difference between harassment of women and sexual harassment legally?
|
Sorry, but I don’t think spoiler alerts apply when there is news story about the show. . Like if you recorded the Super Bowl and that night the entire team got killed in a bus accident would you be mad that people were discussing the accident? If you really want to avoid finding out who won, stay off all social media. |
I guess if you’re in a sexual relationship with an employee and you act vindictive and abusive towards them, that’s counts as sexual harassment. Perhaps he was also non-sexually harassing the other female employees he wasn’t sleeping with, who knows. To let a star chef go when they were about to capitalize on his Top Chef win speaks to how bad it must have been, imo. |
+1. It’s not like the title of the post was “Gabe won top chef”. Why would the PP click on the link? With three pages someone was bound to spoil the winner. My google news app spoiled the winner for me. I still enjoyed watching the finale. |
This. |
A relationship with a boss and a subordinate is never consensual. |
Eh, I thought Dawn was going home after the semi-final...Gabe would've been there anyway. Personally, I got the sense the judges were really split between Shota and Gabe, and it came down to wanting to highlight Gabe's Mexican cuisine. I'm of the opinion that Top Chef should look further into this and consider some kind of repercussion if true. As you can tell by the judges this season, TC winners leverage their wins for years to come and receive material benefits from the show directly and from being associated with it. The restaurant industry has enough issues with harassment and TC doesn't need to add to them. |
There is an imbalance of power, and the policies of a particular employer might prohibit such relationship, but a relationship can still be consensual. Are you saying that any workplace relationship between an manager and a subordinate is rape? Under what law? |
I am in the camp that TC should do nothing, other than refrain from offering him additional opportunities for exposure. It is a cooking show. He won it on his cooking. There are people all over Hollywood and sports and other professions that do reprehensible things. They still achieve what they achieved. Just never bring him back as a guest judge or showcase him on any promotional materials. I mean, I don't think they've mentioned Mike Isabella since that scandal... |
Uh. I thought this was sarcasm at first. The thread title is literally Top Chef Gabe Erales...like President Biden...it's a title. |
Your last sentence is pretty interesting, now that I think about it. Presumably his boss/restaurant knew even though they probably have to sign NDAs until it airs. |
