Trans kids in HS

Let’s get real. Kids and teens do things for attention or to belong. Not all of the kids in the current trans wave will stay trans. I’m not saying that’s good or bad, or saying anyone specifically is not “really trans.” It’s ok to point out that normal teenage tendencies also apply here. We do not have to play along with the emperor’s new clothes to a ridiculous degree. The woke police’s insistence that we ignore the desire to belong/get noticed when it comes to this stuff, when it so obviously plays a role in most teenage behavior, is absurd. We can exist in reality while being respectful. It’s not necessary to pretend that a large percentage of the population is trans. That’s simply not the case.

Where did somebody say a large percentage is trans? Nobod said that.

A handful of kids in each grade.

Get over it trans is real not a fad.

Be kind, move on with your misplaced outrage.

I don't live in the DC area, but am a high school teacher in a Western European country. Our school is small and I have about 60 students total, including all class sections. Of these, 4 are trans, all born female and now identifying as male.

This year we also had one student who had identified as trans male for two years announce that she is actually female and would like to return to using her original pronouns. I think one of our other trans students may be on the brink of this de-transition as well.

I expect that one of my students may soon announce that she is trans. This is based on some things the student has said, and things the parents have said. The parents are fully supportive and the family is working with a therapist to best support their child.

We all honour students' pronoun choices.

I wouldn't say any of this is a trend. I think society has become more open and supportive of trans people. Kids who in previous generations would have either kept quiet or even not have been given the tools to understand themselves this way are now coming out and being supported.

One interesting thing to me is that there were more students identifying as gay/lesbian a decade + ago, but there are currently no openly gay/lesbian students at our school now, only the multiple trans kids.

Well that is an interesting and relevant observation. Why are lesbian/gay kids transitioning to the opposite gender to such a degree? Don't you find that alarming?

Why on earth would that be “alarming”!?’

I sincerely hope all those unhappy with their gender are seeing a very good therapist. I think many kids are just following the popular trend. I also don't understand preferred pronouns. I'm sorry but you're a he or a she and it's obvious which it is. My opinion is that this is getting out of hand. Let the bashing begin because I'm sure it's imminent.
