If you bought a car in the last month, how much negotiating would the dealer entertain?

I usually aim for 12% or more off of a Mercedes. Not always possible with all models, but I've done it three times now.

Thoughts on the new Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid?

Looks like 5 percent off is fairly easy, and 8 percent off should be possible. Not a lot of data on this model. Start at 10 percent off. Ask all the dealers in a 100 mile radius. Push!

Maybe in regular times, not at the moment. There are 46 of them total within 100 miles of Rockville. That’s it. No new ones coming in until November. The best you will do is MSRP - rebate. When those 46 are gone, they’re gone.

Fitzgerald shows 4 in stock, only 1 is there. The other 3 are "in transit". Currently "in transit" means November at the earliest.

I am not here to argue with you. My numbers are based on actual sales. It doesn't hurt to try. My advice is free, if you don't like it, don't use it.

Maybe past sales, but the last 30 days and the next 60 days are not the same as it always has been. Dealers are running out of cars, and will continue to do so. Why would they discount something they can not replace? I am in the industry at a top level, I just might have information you do not have. I am not the poster that replied based on what they see on the lot, my information is based on what will be available in the next few months, not what happened when there was inventory. Past sales are irrelevant at the moment. 6 months ago you could get $10k plus off of a Ford F-350. This month the 2017 used are selling for $10k OVER the original MSRP from 2017, if you told someone "based on past sales a good discount would be $10K" you look dumb.

Please show me any Santa Fe Hybrid you can buy right now for less than MSRP, I'll wait. Not "incoming" one actually on the ground.

Looks like 10% off of MSRP is a good deal that is very doable. Shoot for 12% to push a little.

Thank you!

DP, I agree. I work at a Honda Store. We have 3 CRV EX in stock and 0 in the pipeline. Everything is selling at MSRP at the moment, and selling fast.

Does anyone have any insight into when more cars will be coming in? Will there be a glut of cars in the fall, maybe?

I heard this shortage is going to last into 2022

OP here. I had to walk out of one dealership, but the next one gave me a decent deal and I got a new car! Not the 5-10% that people are talking about here, but enough off of the sticker that I didn't feel robbed.

We had to buy as our previous car died.

Google the make model year and the phrase prices paid forum and you will find great answers of what others are paying.

Ie: “2021 Honda Pilot prices paid forum”

Not Odyssey’s or Pilots. Those are heavily discounted. Yes even now.

Congratulations!

Can you share the amount of discount you did receive? This is with a Santa Fe Hybrid, correct?

Yea, yea, yea. I've heard it all before. I don't even doubt your sincerity that indeed CRV EXes are all going for MSRP at your particular dealership. But the goal here for the Honda CRV EX shopper is to buy the car from A dealership, not YOUR dealership. Just a quick search around 22101 shows 5 dealerships within 10 miles with 84 CRV EX in stock on the lot, not counting the ones in transit, and even more with the leather trim: 130 units on the lot. That's on average 43 CRV EXes per dealer.

Maybe your dealership just did a terrible job getting allocations?

There are plenty of cars on the lot and in transit. Some brands have lower inventory than others. Not everyone is impacted by the chip shortage. Toyota, for example, has the lowest inventory in the industry at 22 days. They are not affected by the chip shortage:
