Maryland is giving away 2 million dollars in a "vaccinated lottery"

I'm French, and the first to criticize any dumb American move However, the USA leads the world, after Israel, the UK, and a very few countries, in vaccinations. It's every country for themselves here.

So this is not embarrassing in the least, on the contrary, it's a genius move and one that could only be done in America. Know why? Because no other country is so wealthy they can do lotteries of 40K to 400K multiple days in a row, in multiple regions!!! France would never be able to do that. They're struggling to distribute vaccines and have only just now inoculated 20 million people with their first doses. Japan and South Korea, champions of Covid precautions, have only vaccinated their medical personnel.

I doff my hat.

I’m not clear what “moral standing” your version of America ever actually had in the world, but I’m sure it won’t be damaged by the use of incentives. If anything, America’s lack of moral standing is reflected in the distrust that many people have in the government based on their history of negative experiences.

It is. There's even a website to confirm that they have your information.

And to make it even more appealing, its not just a 2 million dollar lotto. Its 40k a day for 40 days, with a 400k giveaway on July 4th, i think.

So lots of winners. Which is good, cause that will means lots more headlines about vaccines.

Its a great idea, I'm all for it. Its unfortunate this is what it takes to motivate people, but whatever. Its a small price to pay for more vaccinations

It probably leads to more vaccine uptake than spending $2 million on more traditional messaging. Or do you oppose spending any money encouraging people to get the vaccines?

2 million is a pittance compared to the cost to the healthcare system and to the economy of having this pandemic drag on and on and on because some obstinate percentage of people keep refusing to do the right thing.

Every state should do this.

It's really a great idea. Once people start winning money, even more will go out and be vaccinated. Win win.

Looks like those vaccinated at a federal facility aren't included, because those sites don't share information.

Here's the full website with info: https://www.mdlottery.com/promotion/2-million-vaxcash-promotion/
