Welcome to boys ECNL. They’re not changing for you. Enjoy the ride. |
Do you have an issue with VA teams playing MD instead of NC and SC teams? If so please explain your concern. I see it as a positive, but would be interested in knowing negatives. |
Competitive level. The MD ECNL teams are much weaker than the NC/SC teams. |
Depends on the age group and specific team. Both have strong and weak teams at age groups, but I’d rather travel an hour or two to play a bad MD team than 8+ hours to play a bad SC team. ECNL also has regional and national events where you can play teams that are on or about your level that are in different conferences. If my kid is missing school and traveling far, I’d rather it be competitive events than mismatched league games. |
No issue. But it’s not going to happen. Girls ECNL has been around for 12 or more years and it hasn’t changed. VHSL has been around for much longer. It’s not changing. This is all fantasy talk |

No - it's not close. The Maryland teams are a LOT weaker. Here are rankings pulled form youthsoccerrankings. In only one age group is a Maryland team the strongest and in every age group four out of the top 5 are from the Carolinas. U13 Charlotte SA South Carolina United NCFC Baltimore Celtic (highest ranked MD team) 99 CESA Charlotte SA Pipeline (2nd ranked Md team) U14 NCFC academy Pipeline (highest ranked MD team) Wilmington Charlotte Independence Charlotte SA South Carolina United CESA NCFC (2nd team) Baltimore Celtic (second ranked MD team) U15 Pipeline NCFC Academy Charlotte SA CESA NCFC (2nd team) Charlotte Independence South Charlotte Independence Pro Baltimore Celtic (2nd ranked Maryland team) U16 Wilmington Carolina Elite South Carolina United Pipeline (top Maryland team) NCFC Academy Charlotte SA National 59 North Carolina Fusion 66 Maryland United (second Maryland team) U17 Charlotte SA Pipeline (top ranked MD team) NCFC Academy CESA Charlotte independence Pro Brausa (second ranked Maryland team) South Carolina United I agree that I would rather a short drive to play a weak team than a long one. But I would rather a long drive to play a good team than any drive to play a weak team. And there are almost no teams in Maryland which can give the better VA teams any competition at all .

Put YSR’s score next to each team and tell me it’s not close. YSR isn’t an exact science. If you are within a point or two it should be a competitive match. |
Took me far too long to do what I did already - I'm not doing it again for you . However I've seen a broad cross section of both the Carolina and Maryland teams over the last two years with my own eyes and there is a huge difference. The Maryland teams - a couple of Pipeline age groups excepted - are nowhere near the better Carolina teams.
Again - I share your preference for the short drive - but the Maryland teams are just not competitive - and it's not close - not even close to being close. |
| Don’t have to post it on here, just look at the difference in YSR points. Fractions of a point are in the margin of error. |
A decent portion of our team is from private schools. So, yes, they do care. But in the end it doesn't matter. You can't organize the schedule in a way that accomodates all. Somebody will be out of luck, private, public or whoever. |
Differences are larger than a fraction of a point - in many cases greater than 2. But even then - that's not as good as actually watching the teams play and I have - at least at my DS' age group. And there is no comparison. |
There is no top NC or SC ECNL team that is more than a point higher than the top MD ECNL team. For me, its not worth it having my kid miss a day of school and travel 8+ hours to play a team that might be a fraction of a point better than he can play an hour or two away if that means he also misses school and travels 8+ hours to also play crappy teams. Since neither of us gets to decide, looks like there is no point in arguing further and we will have to agree to disagree. |

The boys ECNL teams will be playing MD and NC (just not SC)
The girls ECNL teams continue to play NC and SC (not MD) |
