Depends on the age group and specific team.  Both have strong and weak teams at age groups, but I’d rather travel an hour or two to play a bad MD team than 8+ hours to play a bad SC team. ECNL also has regional and national events where you can play teams that are on or about your level that are in different conferences. If my kid is missing school and traveling far, I’d rather it be competitive events than mismatched league games. [/quote]

No - it's not close.  The Maryland teams are a LOT weaker.

Here are rankings pulled form youthsoccerrankings.  In only one age group is a Maryland team the strongest and in every age group four out of the top 5 are from the Carolinas.

I agree that I would rather a short drive to play a weak team than a long one.  But I would rather a long drive to play a good team than any drive to play a weak team.  And there are almost no teams in Maryland which can give the better VA teams any competition at all :-(.[/quote]
