Ludlow-Taylor info / review / performance

SWS parent here. I vaguely recall hearing SWS’ principal share recently that SWS would be gaining a new self-contained classroom next year (in addition to the rooms and programs it already has).

And FYI that L-T was accepting OOB families as recently as this fall. (We turned down a spot, opting to stay at SWS despite the swing-space—a decision we’re pleased with, as tgg be e swing space is fine.)

Exactly. I know they accept OOB families, I was one of them too

And to the other PP although DCPS does decide, admin is allowed to appeal, the fact that they didn’t says a lot. I understand they do have more self contained classrooms that normal but I promise not all the classrooms are matched. I know this because when a class shuts down I alway go way over the cap, it’s not fair to my families or any students.

Alas, hopefully DCPS can get their act together and establish a proper feeder. As well as build schools to have EXTRA space so they have plenty of room to grow. It’s insane how overcrowded some our schools can become, mine included.

Exactly. I know they accept OOB families, I was one of them too

But of course L-T has OOB kids, because they have to right-size classrooms. If you have 55 kids, you need 3 classrooms but that also means you can take a ton of OOB kids. I’m not sure what you PPs are missing. They have to have enough classrooms for their IB pop, so there’s not that much they can do at a certain point (nor is it clear why they would given that they already have a relatively large number of self-contained classrooms — more than enough for their IB pop).

The idea that an ES with tons of self-contained classrooms is evil for eliminating two over a handful of years as the IB population grew, but schools that have never bothered to have self-contained classrooms at all get a free pass is frankly laughable...

There’s not a need for every school to have self-contained. Also DCPS loves to make sure most of the self contained rooms are not in NW. Because they are overcrowded, again showing only rich or middle class white kids who have no disabilities or mild ones that keep them in gen ed matter.

Don’t act like you really care with your snarky comment. It’s certainly disgusting to get rid of any self contained room. Funny how they start cutting self contained classrooms as a school becomes more gentrified.

There are different kinds of programs, it’s not like you can stick all self contained IB kids together. But that doesn’t matter because obviously those kids don’t matter to that school community or quite frankly DCPS. This is part of the reason they are bad a special needs as a whole.
