I bought a puffy winter coat in 2013 and another warm coat in 2020. I wear both, but one is for below freezing and the other is for wet or not-too-cold days.
In 2018 I bought a beautiful cashmere coat. It was for fancier occasions. I own a trenchcoat purchased in 2009 that is no longer in goos shape, so I’ve been thinking about replacing it. Basically I seem to buy a new coat every few years. Same with bathing suits, but I don’t swim all summer. |

I actually bought a new coat this year and it was the first one I have bought in ages.
As for bathing suits, we go to the pool so much, I usually end up buying a new one each year. They don't seem to last. The ones I bought last year are in good shape though, since we didn't do as much last summer. |
Is that supposed to make us think you sound intelligent? |

I buy 2-3 new suits a year. But we spend a ton of time at beaches, lakes, and pools during the summer and take at least one beach vacation a year (which I usually buy a suit for).
I buy a winter coat every 2-3 years. |

I have had the same winter coat since 2014. The coat before that lasted 2005-2014.
Same bathing suit since about 2016. My bathing suit before that one worked fine from 2003-2016. These items aren’t super high quality either. Coats from Macy’s. Bathing suits from Lands End. |
Barf. Not PP, but maybe she doesn't find a "splurge" on a new coat to bring her any happiness? I have been wearing the same winter coat for close to 15 years. My ski parka is even older than that. I could replace them, but... I guess I don't care enough? They still look fine and do the job. I also don't live at the beach, so my bathing suits last me many years before the lycra and elastic dry rots. I do typically replenish a couple of items of clothing every season, but for me, a coat is utilitarian. Replacing it brings me as much joy as replacing my car tires. |
NP - ditto. |

Nooooo. I buy new coats when the old one is ripped or otherwise compromised OR I realize that I hate it. But I usually give a coat a couple of years before I get a new one, even if I hate it. I'm way too frugal to buy one every year.
Pretty much same with swimsuits. |

I get 5-10 years out of my coats. I have one that I've been trying to replace for a while (it looks worn) but I can't find a replacement that I like, so I keep wearing it.
I end up replacing my swimsuits in big bunches. We are at the pool a ton and go to the beach as well. This year, I probably need to find 3 new suits, but I don't know where I'm going to buy them now that Lord & Taylor has closed. They were the best for swimsuits! I do buy a new rashguard shirt every year or two as those tend to stain or get stretched out. |
| 2 years ago, I bought a new winter coat for the first time in 15 years. |
