Swimsuits, yes. Just bought 6 or 7 last week.
We spend the whole summer at the beach, so I am in a swimsuit everyday. |
Bathing suits are not meant to be passed down to your children, PP. If you use them intensively, you're lucky to have one last a few years. The sun, salt, and sand are rough on them. |
| I buy several new bathing suits each year because we spend a lot of time at the beach and pool. I can’t remember the last time I bought a new winter coat. |
| I have been wearing the same Landsend jacket for 23 years. It never goes out of style and looks brand new! |
|
I buy a new winter coat every 5 years or so. I should have replaced mine in 2020 so maybe I should start looking for end of season sales.
I have not owned a swimsuit for 6 to 8 years. We never did a lot of beach vacations and my days of having to go to the pool with young kids are waaay behind me. I lost 35 pounds during quarantine and could conceivably be seen in public in a swimsuit again, but I still don't think I would actually wear one if I bought one. |
| No. I buy a swimsuit or coat when the old one wears out or doesn't fit anymore, or shrinks. Usually I can get ten years out of a lands end coat. |
|
Yes, at least one of each - every year.
You should add a HHI poll and WAH or SAH along with this question. |
| No. |
| I paid over 1000 for my Canada Goose jacket. You must be buying cheap crap OP. |
|
Nope. I have had the same two pea coats for about 20 years, and the same other winter coat for about a dozen. Maybe every five to seven years I get a new scarf if I feel like it.
I replace my swimsuits as they wear out. The ones I wear to swim laps in wear out faster than the others. So maybe every three years I replace those. |
Sad. Do you ever splurge? |
I don’t think she’s necessarily buying cheap crap. I buy some sort of (usually overpriced) jacket almost every year, but almost never throw any out! So I have waaay too many. On the plus side, I have a jacket/coat/parka for every occasion, eventuality, and weather situation. |
| I buy a new coat when the old one wears out, usually. |

Hey ladies, it’s thanks to those of you who indulge in a new coat every year and donate the last year’s coat that regular folk who can only afford to shop at thrift stores can ever have really nice stuff. So if you’ve got the cash, indulge in new fashion! Don’t let the old ones pile up and clog your closets - give them to the thrift store of your choice (Goodwill, SA, church, etc.) and let us poor folk have a nice coat with little wear.
|
| Oh by the way - you can get a receipt for those clothing donations and add it to your itemized (charitable) deductions. |
