We should try to organize a get-together for newly-accepted Cooke families. It would be really nice to see Cooke turn into a neighborhood school where Adams Morgan parents would be happy to send their kids without hesitation, and that's only going to happen if this year's momentum holds for a few more years....

I agree. Lets start a new thread.

Just figured out how you all were checking, disregard.

We got waitlisted everywhere we applied OOB. The school we have the best waitlist number for lists no spots. I am guessing that even with a relatively low number, we are not going to get in, right?

Time for waitlist karma. The moment you decide to give up a slot, please CALL the school. Even if you have a 100+ waitlist number, every shift helps.

I'll start. Giving up OOB high double digit spot at Bancroft.

Those waitlisted everywhere, don't lose hope! Hang in there a few weeks.

Wow, now this really is like the private school forum.

Accepted only at our fifth-choice school; husband is now saying that maybe our son would be better off spending another year in daycare.

When will a summary sheet be available -- the one that has the results for all of the schools?

1. Barnard ES Waitlist #48 (it's weird that we are not considered OOB w/proximity because we are 6 blocks away)

2. Raymond EC Accepted

3. Thompson ES Waitlist #15

4. Cleveland ES Waitlist #20

5. HD Cooke ES Waitlist #24

6. Bancroft ES Waitlist #110

Of course now I wish that Raymond had been #6 because I think I would have preferred the others. Oh well.

Now if I decide I really really really would prefer for my daughter to go to Thompson, Cleveland or Cook, do I just monitor their waitlists until it looks like we might get in and then relinquish the spot? Or do I simply consider myself lucky for getting a spot and be happy with what we got?

I'd monitor the lists that you're still seriously considering and relinquish your slots on the others.

Take a look at the charters! For bilingual education, try LAMB, Stokes, Yu Ying, DC Bilingual... anyone have any other suggestions?

All waitlists. Anyone have any experience with how the SWS, Peabody, Watkins, Tyler spanish lists move?

What do we need to do to relinquish our waitlist spots? And will the dcps website automatically get updated as folks do that, or are we now in the phase where the schools own the waitlists and they can't be publicly monitored anymore?

From the FAQ:

Our website will ONLY show you your initial rank on the waitlist; it will not update as students move up the waitlist. Thus, in order to continue monitoring your rank on the waitlists, please reach out directly to the schools for which you applied.
