Agreed, although I admit to being disturbed by (and frankly concerned for) those who seem ready to fire Duran because he happened to call a snow day.

“Student mental health is SUFFERING!!!!!”

“Here’s a day to just not log into DL. Tell them to sleep, read a book, relax, enjoy “

“how dare you my child needs to be learning!”

They canceled because FCPS did. Or they are afraid of power outages. Either way, we will enjoy playing in the snow/sleet/ice.

You don't know that those are the same posters.

Oh yes I do. Because there are certain people who will complain no matter WHAT schools do.

The explanation is it’s weather. Nobody told you you had to bicker.

It is reasonable to get an explanation. There is no reason DL couldn't continue today. With parents expected to be heavily involved in all aspects of school this year - a common courtesy explanation is absolutely reasonable.

Somebody can be curious about why they went from closing just buildings to closing buildings and classes and still be excited about the kids having a break. (I’m somebody)

With no snow. Ice, sleet yes, but no snow. Fun times to play outside.

Ice is WORSE . It’s way more dangerous for school employees to go in on ice.

Why can’t they sit in front of their computers from hone like they’ve been doing? I am extremely angry, and will be contacting Dr Duran to tell him so.

It's a mix on AEM, some of the people complaining about the snow day are current/former SR folks.

My kids have had a break for 11 months with no schooling from Mid March -September, and the bare minimum this year. There is absolutely no reason why they can’t do virtual learning.

Custodians sit in front of computers? Nutrition staff? Security? Feel free to email Duran, you’ll look like an idiot, he won’t read it, and the weather will weather anyway.

Way more dangerous to get to your computer?? I get closing buildings. That makes sense. DL? Too icy between your kitchen and office???

Do you understand that if schools are considered open for the day, nutrition staff HAS to report. Why? Because meals HAVE to be provided on a sxhool day. Custodians HAVE to report. Admin HAS to report. Any federally mandated schedules tests like ACCESS/WIDA HAVE to happen? No of course you don’t because the world revolves around you and hating teachers.

The buildings were already closed for the day, so no those people weren't reporting. I really DGAF but canceling DL is beyond ridiculous.

My kid is a senior and we're beyond done with APS but I feel for the people who have to work and have little kids.

You keep saying you don’t care but your posting about it says otherwise.

No I just like egging people like you on.

My kid already got into college so I truly don’t care. I come here for entertainment.

You are really going to send your kids out to play in sleet?

They don’t. It’s ice. Bad enough dominion warned us we might lose power. But sure hold distance learning when people might lose power and not be able to attend class. I swear people will do anything to complain.

might might might..

So you woke up and chose misery again today.

so you woke up and didn't care to do your already half-A$$ effort of a job today..

^ see this is why they should provide an explanation. It could save Duran’s secretary from getting emails like this.

They don’t give our food on Thursdays. I agree the actual buildings should be closed, but why can’t my kids’ teachers who have been at hone all year continue to do that today?
