Every district has said their plan is for a 5 day fall. Every single one.

Yup. That’s the “plan.”

...6 months from now...

Shrugs. “Yelp, the plan changed. Four days concurrent to accommodate [insert McMuffin here].”

Sorry you have such a hard time with change and uncertainty. Maybe go lock yourself in your bedroom until things get back to "normal". See you in a few years!

You're the problem. Not the solution.

You don’t get a vote lol
Schools do not ask the community to vote on how they spend their money.

NP. They should. I would vote for more money, but change lots of things. Year round school, more academics, more arts/language/PE, 8 hour day, more special placements. I'm an elementary school parent and don't even think that's working. It's broken from the start. Normal and smart kids are completely ignored while ESOL and bad behaviors take over the classroom.

I also would like to see a move away from being tied to your local school. Local schools are either in a race to the bottom (with UMC parents moving out in droves) or a fight to get into the best pyramids. It's ridiculous that the education your child receives is based on how much you spend on your home.

No, they shouldn’t. We vote for a school board that makes these decisions. It’s no different from any other branch of government and related budget. It’s a representative government for a reason.

Some of you are just enjoying wallowing in your misery too much. You get the news you want and still won’t accept it. I am a teacher (it’s a snow day so don’t @ me for posting). There is NO PLAN for anything except 5 day in the fall. They’re already talking about bumping us up to 4 right after we start hybrid. We will all be vaccinated (staff) and by then even general public will be. The governor will not allow schools to not offer it. You are ACTIVELY CHOOSING misery when districts say over and over it will happen and you persist in saying it won’t.

As long as school is open 5 days a week, I’m all for teacher raises & always have been.

I hope for everyone else public school is open 5 days in the fall. I’m probably still sending my kids to private next year because I don’t have enough of a guarantee. Fwiw - the private school I’m sending my kids to isn’t accepting more kids than they can social distance because they have no guarantee yet that they won’t have to do so.

How many teacher bashing posts can DCUM have at any given time? This board has gone to crap.

You're confused. FCPS has said it's the "goal" and that they "aspire to it." That's not a plan. They have no plan.

Loudon has a plan to trial 4 days this week. Faquier is doing it. Prince William I think also has a plan. Not sure about Arlington, Alexandria, or Falls Church - haven't seen a concrete plan but don't watch their school board meetings.

Most people don't want to bash all teachers, just school boards and superintendents and unions.

Agreed! Teachers are working 5 days a week right now! We are working just as hard as ever before. We deserve to receive cost of living and step increases AT A MINIMUM.

You have my support when all kids who want it are back in school 5 days a week.

Many districts in this area have not had teacher raises or step increases the past few years. I'm sorry you are upset that the districts/states haven't given you what you want but to deny teachers, and school staff their normal longevity pay scale increases is ridiculous.

APS salary study already showed the APS pay scale does not stay competitive compared to other districts over time and this will contribute to a decrease in teacher retention and quality.

Yeah. I'm all for spending more money to hire and retain quality teachers. You dont get talent by being cheap.

But the layers, the layers....of administration, of do-nothings at the upper levels of every school district HQ. And the unions that protect poor performers that end up costing us all.
