VA Budget Salary Increases for Teachers

Anonymous
State budget proposals propose 3% increases for state employees and 3-5% for teachers. I’d be all for extra increase for teachers working in-person. But they’ve kind of gone out of their way to demonstrate they are not essential, and then we’d turn around and give them a bigger raise than other state employees, many of whom may have been working in-person...? This shit is why democrats don’t get elected. Sure raise salaries but why the extra boost for teachers?

Oh it’s even better in Loudoun. School Board asking for 7.5% for teachers. Not kidding.

I meant to say “won’t get elected,”. As a progressive democrat, our dem politicians have done a crap job in VA. Horrible testing and then vaccine roll out, no leadership on RTS until way Too late. Goodbye blue wave, VA is going to be purple again.

It’s a no from me and I always voted for meals tax, bonds, etc. Hard pass on more money to teachers at this point in time.

It’s like your kids asking you for something right when you are in the middle of a work crisis.

The other staff in buildings (custodial, food service, assistants, clerical and sub) are the ones that really need the raises.

Yeah, funny thing is though, you don’t vote on school budgets. If they allot something in the budget and it gets adopted, that isn’t up to us in the general public

And they can't even guarantee 5 days next fall.

Every district has said their plan is for a 5 day fall. Every single one.

They should only give raises to the teachers who teach in person.

You need to get a life. A lot of families chose to stay DL and they need teachers too. Your kids get to go in. Quit worrying about the others now.

I support raises for all teachers - FCPS needs to pay more, but I agree that essential in-person workers like first responders, custodians, public transportation workers really deserve a bonus/raise for working through the pandemic. It is depressing how they get ignored.

FCPS is proposing a pay freeze.

Yesterday Fairfax Co. approved $2K pandemic bonuses for county employees in ‘high-risk’ jobs.

That was earlier. Have they made a new announcement?
