This sums it up.

Who cares? He’s a musician. He writes great music and has played with top-notch people.

It’s not like Michael Jackson, who was a pedophile.

So, we quickly went from, “But he’s a working class hero” to “at least he’s not a pedophile.”

Perhaps that sums it up.

Where is the post that said he was a "working class hero?" I said he has working class roots. A bus driver, on average, makes $16.44/hr. A legal secretary makes 60K, on average. That's working class money, in my book. I'm sure some working class folks consider him a hero, whereas many others don't.

Meh. I can understand why a car company would be squeamish about being associated with a spokesman who was arrested for DRUNK DRIVING.

I agree it sounds like the charges are dubious. However this isn’t your typical cancel culture reflex. He was shilling for a car.

Why would he care if it was pulled? He prob got $10 million bucks already to star in it.

First of all, that was my first post on this thread.

Second, what’s your point?

Is he not allowed to advocate for the working man just because he achieved success in his career path?

And somehow now he’s a cowboy from middle America ;0)

Bus driver = union job
Legal secretary = good salary

He was solidly middle class, likely UMC.

There’s no need for an affected accent. That’s an act.

And, perhaps most importantly: what exactly has he done for the working class aside from appropriate a persona to sell records to them?

Bus driver = UMC? WTH are u smoking?

He literally acknowledges his fraud, yet his fans still believe it’s all real. Hilarious!

You really missthe point of the article.

Bruce was born in 1949. A union bus driver in the 1950s and 60s was solidly middle class. The middle class didn’t start to nosedive until the mid/late 70s.

Plus, his mom had a job. And, his grandparents lived with them (no childcare costs, and presumably SS income).

This. If he was shilling for Doritos no one would care.

Also strange that the poster claims to be a social justice warrior but uses the National Review as a source for their argument.

Yeah, this hardly sounds upper middle class:

Douglas Springsteen, with his wife, Adele, raised three children next to a gas station in central New Jersey. Bruce, the oldest and only boy, was born in 1949. In addition to factory work, Douglas had an assortment of jobs, including cab driver and prison guard.

Thai thread is precious. What does the job that his parents had have to Dow this him being pulled over on suspected DWI?

He had a shot that was witnessed. He was pulled over to verify he was not intoxicated.

Newsflash: police call pull you over for anything, but most white people would never have experienced this.

I still don’t see where anything happened other than he was pulled over and given a breathalyzer?

I'm not sure you've made the case that "solidly middle class" = UMC

A NYC bus drive made at most $2/hr in 1955.

https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=coo.31924054549476&view=1up&seq=171

$2 in 1955 is now worth $19.44.

https://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/1955?amount=1

So at most his dad was bringing home $80/wk, which is $777/wk, which is 40K a year.

And the pay for bus driver in NJ was likely lower than in Manhattan.

And he wasn't always a bus drive, he was also a factory worker and cab driver, where he probably made less.
