check it, be prepared to prove (some proof that your dad is/was AA), and thank your father. He may have left you and your mom, but he left you a legacy Good luck!

OP said the kid identify as white. |

Just check it.
Know why? Because affirmative action in college and grad school and hiring quota programs at white collar employers are always for the right half of the barbell. The intact families, the Hs graduates who work hard, the working parents. America, and its Black community, still don’t know what to do with the left half of its barbell. The crime, the missing fathers, the welfare, the schooling issues, |
Lots of Obama articles in this since is technically not African American black but biracial, half white American and black Kenyan/African. |
Check the AA box. The "system" is stacked against you and you have an opportunity to grab an opportunity. Take it. Remember that all well-off Nigerians from highly educated, 2-income families, with no slave ancestry claim to be Black and take advantage of affirmative action. Why shouldn't you? My personal opinion is that race-based affirmative action should be limited to kids who can trace their lineage to slaves or Native American tribes through BOTH parents. All other affirmative action should be based on a combination of wealth and income. I also believe colleges should NOT be non-profits and pay full taxes so I'm not subsidizing institutions that I do not benefit from. |
| If Obama checks it, with absentee Kenyan father in Africa and his white mom and grandparents raising him in $50k private school in Hawaii for 23 years, you can check it. |
It should be high achievers who work hard and are low SES. Full stop. |
| OP- if your student is in public school, when you registered him (in Kindergarten), you completed demographics information including race and if he was Latino. Your college apps should match the school documentation because colleges will see this. If the school says he is White, but you check AA for college, this will raise a red flag. |

" It should be high achievers who work hard and are low SES. Full stop."
Totally agree with this If Affirmative action in only based on skin color, it will have all kind of issues, Like OP's father is light colored, I guess the father is already a mixture race, not 100% AA. So the OP should not be 50% AA, the OP's child should be less than 25% President Obama is sure 50% AA, but he is raised in a wealthy grandparents. Kamakla Harris's father is also a light color AA, so, Kamala should have a less than 50% AA. Who knows how much her father is ???% AA. one previous post said Kamala's father is 50% AA. SO Kamala should have 25% AA However, Kamala is not raised in a wealthy family, just ordinary family (financially). So it is too complicated if affirmative action only based on color, especially in the future, there are will be more mixture race marriage |
You support that position for churches also? And country clubs? And political organizations? Etc etc? If you do, then great, you are one of the few that are ideologically consistent. If not, you are just another hypocrite with an axe to grind. I am not saying which one you are, I am asking you to say so yourself. |
What has he been selecting all along to register for school, medical forms, and census etc.? My kids are bi-racial and every form has checked both black and white. They aren’t white their whole lives on every form and suddenly two races for college applications. |
OP here- up to this point we have been the ones filling out these forms for him and we have usually left it blank or checked the « decline to state » box. |
Yes. All these are entities that scam me, the taxpayer. Why should they not be taxed? Don't forget to include Hospitals. |
OP - Is this decision troubling your conscience or are you just having a conversation? Curious.. |
