Plenty of “POC” are racist. Thou doth protest too much. Just get out of the left lane, ‘kay? |
LIES! Native Virginian. Most of us suck and traffic is horrible because of it. And Lord, please don't let there be snow, or rain, or a plastic bag blowing in the wind. |
And plenty of Black (and white, and Asian, and Hispanic, and mix, and other) Maryland drivers are outright awful. Don't use racism to try and explain this, because the only explanation is Maryland. Try to use your turn signal when changing lanes. But then also try not to leave it on for 7 miles. Please and thank you. |
Another VA POC, and I would agree that there is a difference in driving styles around the DMV but it isnt just VA/MD/DC. Maryland drivers on the Potomac side are a horrible mix of beltway runoff styles from Baltimore and a lack of basic defensive driving skills from Virginians. It is very sluggish this way until you get past 270, where people speed up again, and drive just as fast as the PG County side, only they (usually) use their signals. Going the other side -- Once you get towards Largo, where the black people are - there is rarely traffic (unless it is a Redskins game bringing Virginia traffic). Maryland drivers don't use signals, but that is because they don't trust that you are going to keep their pace when you get over. And if it is a Virginia driver - they are GUARUNTEED to get in front of you just to slow down to 1 mile above (if not below) the speed limit. DC drivers are pretty mindful because most all of them have nearly been killed when walking the streets by a Virginian or a Marylander.

I think all SoMDers should agree to put on turn signals but only if the Virginians learn how to merge in the rain, and put masks on their children outside and at the playground, with both of them agreeing not to drive in DC. Oh, and ALL of DC Maryland and Virginia must agree to treat any traffic lights that are out as a 4-way stop sign, which requires both camps learning how it works.

I’m not a Maryland driver. Stay out of the left lane. |
| Virginia drivers will cut you off. DC drivers will flip you off. Maryland drivers will crash into your house. |
oh, please, I've seen VA drivers do the same. I'm originally from out west. DC streets are crazy. It's easy to get confused. |
I'm originally from out west. I find MD drivers to be too cautious to the point where everyone around them gets frustrated. And yes, many don't seem to use the turn signals which I find super annoying. I find VA drivers to be overly aggressive and have a sense of entitlement on the roads. I find DC drivers to be confused in the 'burbs, but that's ok, because I get confused in DC. Let's all remember that the driver who caused the huge pile up on the bridge that caused many people to not be able to get home that night was from VA, and it was due to aggressive driving. |
| YES! VA has the worst drives, and actually DC metro in general. Everyone is so slow. I can't stand it. Like they all just learned to drive yesterday. I think it's bc the speed limits are so much lower in this part of the country. Can't stand it. |
lol.... yea, it's kind of true, but it's mostly because many are recent immigrants and recent drivers. Newbies + very skittish = bad drivers. I've known a couple There's a term for it out west where I'm from -- DWO (I'll let you figure out what it means). I heard this from an Asian female friend whose Asian DH is a CHP officer in CA. -Asian female |
Nope, nope, nope. I mean the white dudes who moved to MD from NJ or NY, drive aggressively, and cut you off going 20 miles above the speed limit. That has happened to me more times than I can count -- and when I am in the center or right lane, not the left. True story: I was driving through Kentucky, of all places, and was cut off by an older white guy in an SUV. Tags? Maryland. |
Insurance studies rank dc the worst closely followed by maryland. Virginia is much better |
And the side stop lights versus overhead swinging. I've seen tourists whiz past them. |
No dear, you're just a sh!tty driver. Miss a turn? Just keep going straight, turn around eventually when it's safe. Don't stop in the stripey area. |
