I'm 40 and I want to be this guy when I grow up. His amazing dogs are even an achievable goal. Looks like a great role model to me.

No, he has brown dogs too. No diversity.

Same. It doesn't bother me from a role model perspective at all.

However, there are trends that we should be watching but also seem to be ignoring because they're male so who cares, right?

Academically, males are falling behind females. The last thing this country needs is a large percentage of the population in crisis. Look how we deal with a small percentage of the country in crisis. We will fall apart.

I hope you’re not communicating your grievances to your poor kid!

Pretty sure moms of Black boys have different complaints. I think all of us would be better served by addressing THOSE complaints.

Off to donate to the NAACP again.

White mom with boys here. Nope don't want to be included in OP's bitch fest. This is why people think we are Karens.

That's why I said "some," not all.

I'm embarrassed for you OP. Please have Jeff close your thread.

I have two American white boys and this is not remotely a concern of mine.
They have literally millions of powerful white American men they read about and see in the news every single day. Donald Trump. Joe Biden. Mitch McConnell. Jeff Bezos. Bill Gates. Warren Buffett. Elon Musk. Anthony Fauci. Christian Pulisic (soccer). Shaun White (snowboarding). Tom Brady.

This is the family member of our neighbor--he's even spoken at my kid's DC school. Seems like a nice guy.

Sigh! Are we now obligated to rescue OP's son from her influence? Is this what they mean by abuse at home during DL?

I specifically wanted a set of four posters that looked like this featuring different famous astronauts:

I was figuring that I’d find four American astronauts that looked different and hang them together. I counted over 30 posters. Only one white man, and he died in space. I am not putting that on DC’s wall. I’m all for representation, and I was figuring on having two men, including a white man and a male pic, and two women of color. I just can’t understand why white American men have NO place in a set of 30 posters. None. I’m not asking for our specific ethnic group, just a token appearance. Where is Neil Armstrong? How is this not discrimination?

Holy cats, you're lazy. NASA sells all kinds of crew posters from historical missions and current missions. They are dominated by pictures of white men, because most astronauts have been white men. Sorry that NASA doesn't sell through Amazon, but I'm sure your credit card will work just fine on the NASA site.

There are few people I'd geek out to meet, but Leland Melvin is one of them. He was the "anchor" (if you can call it that) for one of the big NASA moments that got broadcast live. He seems brilliant, funny, and cool. And he likes dogs.

Wait.

So you’re saying the men in those pictures can’t be role models for your boys?

Think carefully about why you feel that way and what values you’re teaching your boys.

Those stories are silly.
One focuses on how a once ALL WOMENS school has low male enrollment. It has *always* had low (or none) male enrollment. And then talks about low male enrollment for poor rural communities (hint: there has always been low college enrollment from poor white rural america... I know, I'm from there).
One article really points to the issue. Video games. Drugs.
I have 4 white American boys from surburbia. The two that are now young adults both went to college. One graduated in under 4 years. The other took 5. My two other white boys will be going to college as well.
