this is what moms of boys are complaining about

I just object to my kid not being represented as one of such a large group. It’s not like there are four posters and no white, American males, there are 32. Thirty-two!

It. Is. A. Series. Celebrating. Firsts. So there was only one "first" white man. What do you not get about that?

Maybe your little white male child could do what girls and brown and black kids have been doing forever, and can look up to people outside of his race and gender for inspiration (since most of us were only provided with white and often male role models in the fields we were interested in). I'm sure you could also find some white dudes for him to idolize, but will it really be devastating for him to learn about Liu Yang, the first Chinese woman in space? Will he see that poster and think "Well, I guess I'll never go to space. Being an astronaut is just for women from China."

No, he won't think that. Because he's probably smarter than you already.

Ding ding. Sometimes I think if (some) white women had an ounce of empathy and just thought about what life is like for children of color, they would be in the streets.

Such a shame that there are no white male heroes celebrated in our culture.

to be fair, if there was one for first white man, OP would probably complain that there was a communist on the poster

To promote equality, we first need to erase or deconstruct the history, language, and culture built by white men.

I specifically wanted a set of four posters that looked like this featuring different famous astronauts:

https://www.amazon.com/Mae-Jemison-African-American-Astronaut/dp/B00YATP4CQ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=PosterEnvy+astronaut&qid=1609783767&sr=8-5

I was figuring that I’d find four American astronauts that looked different and hang them together. I counted over 30 posters. Only one white man, and he died in space. I am not putting that on DC’s wall. I’m all for representation, and I was figuring on having two men, including a white man and a male pic, and two women of color. I just can’t understand why white American men have NO place in a set of 30 posters. None. I’m not asking for our specific ethnic group, just a token appearance. Where is Neil Armstrong? How is this not discrimination?

Representation IS important. And you and he are seeing that up close, are you not? Imagine what it's like being a woman or POC and not seeing your representation, well, anywhere, for generations upon generations. Unlike your son, who need only look to POTUS, VPOTUS, Congress, SCOTUS . . . where he is well-represented (indeed over-represented).

As others have pointed out, there is plenty of white, male astronaut merch (Or any white, male merch of any kind). You need not look that far to find it.

Sorry they didn't have a poster for a white man being the first black man in space OP.

Disagree. You don't need to burn down and erase the past to get a different future. The past already happened

The past happened and was inaccurately reported. So yes, we do have work to do.

Exactly. “If you don’t learn the past, you will repeat it.”s
