I'm in LA also, and I think lots of reasonable people want to recall him. I think the recall has picked up steam, which is why he re-allowed outdoor dining (not because covid cases were going down)

But I don't get who would want to be a Democrat and run against him, because if you lose that one you are so screwed in your own party.

I haven’t heard any Democrat is going to be on the ballot against him in the recall. The choices will be Newsom and various GOP candidates, and fringe people. Newsom will win. When he is up for re-election, lots of Dems will run against him. I think some Dems have gotten increasingly progressive and they are alienating other Democrats like myself who are more centrist and not so ideological.

Okay but I *think* the ballot looks like this:

Question 1: Shall Gavin Newsom be recalled? (Y/N)

Question 2: Who should replace him? (Larla Smith, Larlo Jones, Larlita Johnson....)

So it doesn't matter if the field is divided, it's first, if he gets recalled, second, who gets the most votes.

PP. my bad, you’re right.

Which I don’t think is an accurate assumption. I think he’s pushing for reopening bc numbers are rapidly dropping - not because Republicans hate him. He f’ed up big time on schools, though.

I don't think it's *just* republicans who hate him, because in our state, that certainly wouldn't cost him an election or create a credible threat of a recall. I heard someone say something that made me laugh, it went something like this:

Gavin Newsom has managed to do what no other politician in California has been able to do: He's managed to bring together Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, people of all races and ethnicities and socioeconomic groups, to unite for one goal: and that is to replace Gavin Newsom.

That doesn't make me laugh. It makes me feel depressed that the guy running our state is such a corrupt loser.

And yet he will beat this recall because democrats like me understand that the pandemic was an extraordinary event and there is no playbook. The sharks circling are opportunists who could not have done better themselves IRL.

The sharks are funded by the RNC and other Trump backers.

Hah. Nobody gave Trump that grace.

In Newsom's case, the problem is that he's doing one thing while telling us to do another. His kids are allowed to be in school while ours aren't. His business is allowed to be open while ours aren't. He's allowed to have dinner parties while we aren't. etc etc

It's the hypocrisy that gets to people.

I don't agree. This *was* small business and grass-roots. Now big donors and Trump folks are jumping in, but that's because it gained traction. It's not where it started. It still IS small business and grass-roots but it's been joined now by Big Politics.

Big Politics will sink the recall. Democrats haven’t forgotten Jan 6th.

Oh please, Trump said it was a hoax. Greatest dereliction of duty by a President in history.

The recall is going to cost California taxpayers $81 million! Thanks Republicans!

and $11 billion with a B went to fraudulent unemployment payouts from newsom's EDD, another reason he is being recalled. seems that $0.081B is a good investment to try and avoid that happening again.

There’s been unemployment fraud nationwide—are they going to recall those governors too?
