good question - anybody know??

Winter is gonna b cancelled

When does football play?

Aren't they playing sports in the order of winter/fall/spring? So football plays like Feb - April or something like that.

^^Should have just played fall in fall, because Feb will be way worse than August for cases.

Agree. And while I don’t celebrate adversity in a Machiavellian way I’m ok with football losing their season. Spring lost last year. Equity above all.

I am so enraged that they delayed school and sports in August when numbers were fine and will now use "numbers" to delay even further. Leadership in Loudoun is completely non-existent.

Depends. School-based transmission had very little to do with her safety one way or the other. Hopefully metrics improve enough post-holiday that she's right back in.

LMAO

The U.S. is averaging 3,100 Covid deaths a day now. Not happening.

Yes, it will happen. This isn't keeping up.

I’m betting you were one of the summer parents convinced schools would re-open in August.

The only thing that will change this is the vaccine. Luckily we’re close with a spring deployment potentially on the horizon.

Is that what you're betting? Metrics will go down early next year and yes, the vaccine is one of the reasons why.

Good luck with wishful thinking. I work for CDC and

1) 480k vaccines are coming to VA at the end of December.
2) these doses are going only and strictly to elderly in nursing homes and the staff dedicating their time and life to them.
3) COVID-19 vaccines have not been tested on children. Surprise! Thus, they will not be distributed nor inoculated on population below the age of 15
4) second round of vaccines for VA is estimated to hit the health officials distribution administrators by early January or mid February. If I recall from my DW’s meetings that’s start of Q3?
5) we need time to assess the adverse reactions of will cause on people so spring through summer is our window.
6) given the above next school year is starting with hybrid and virtual as we are now.
7) if nothing goes wrong, key word if, you might have 5 day in-person starting Q2 in 2021-2022 SY

You keep posting these same 7 Doomsday steps in multiple threads. This must be the 6th time you've posted this.
Are you sitting down there in Atlanta, surfing DCUM and pouncing on all the return-to-school threads with your list?
I picture you giddy as you hit copy and past yet again!
Maybe you should return to the lab now.

As soon as the elderly are vaccinated, deaths will plummet.

Its so obvious crazy list PP is a teacher and does not work for the CDC.

Why on earth would you assume they’re a teacher

Prediction of super delayed school reopening. Only teachers think/want that.

I am really baffled as to why some parents think teaching online is some sort of vacation for the instructor. Many teachers — at least those trying to keep class engaging — find it is *more* work than in person schooling. It is also less rewarding work because, like the students, we miss human interaction and are also getting burnt out on too much screen time. In any case, making generalizations about any one group is dangerous and I see that happening too often on this forum.

So, asking because I'm in a nearby jurisdiction and trying to keep up and compare.... how many days were LCPS kids back in hybrid?
Anonymous
^^^Okay, PP. So do the teachers you know, for the most part expect school to reopen 5 days in the Fall of 2021? Because if most teachers want it, and most parents want it, then I think it has a good chance of happening. If there is loud dissention from either group, I'm less confident.

I mean this is the entire metro region making these choices so it’s weird to single out Loudoun

You haven’t figured out yet that our wants aren’t driving these decisions ? If they were people would have been in in august.

If they can get a vaccine before fall, I can’t see any reason why teachers would NOT want to go back to the classroom. I think most people in the profession really don’t want to be sitting in front of a computer all day. There are mornings where I feel physically ill at the thought of another day pleading with postage stamp sized images to interact with me.

Disagree. If parents and teachers both agreed to go back, we would have.

Yeah I don’t think that’ll happen. If they prioritize teachers for vaccines we will happily go back. Asking us to do that with no vaccine in January is a different story obviously.

By “I don’t think that’ll happen” I mean teachers arguing against in person in fall if there’s widespread vaccination ! I think we all want it to be safe to go back.

DP. It's a small but very vocal minority of teachers and their "union" in FCPS who have and continue to tank things for all of us. They are the largest school district in NOVA. The other school districts like to claim that they make their own decisions, but they are heavily influenced by FCPS.

I believe that the vast majority of teachers, and especially ES teachers, wanted to be back in the buildings.

Does this mean secondary teachers don’t have to go in starting Jan. 4? Or is that happening regardless?

All schools are closed for all students and teachers until the two metrics go back down below the established thresholds for five consecutive days. So the answer is really, it depends, although highly unlikely.
