No, they don't. Many police do the work because they are service-oriented and want to help. There may be issues with the police department, and good police want to fix those. But to demonize police as a profession will just destroy it. And along with that comes more crime and victimization of the exact people everyone is trying to help.

Treat them as the professionals they are, and they will work with you to improve what needs to imrpove.

You would not know it based on how DC constituents treat DCPD.

In any case, DC does not have the largest budget per capita in the US amongst police forces; nor is that a positive indicator for any prospective police chief.

Someone will certainly take the job, no one is questioning that.
