some teams are saying no spectators because they don't want to have to say which player can have a spectator.

our field has a public park adjacent for the siblings and other spouses, so it's all good

They have not updated their website. I agree that they should. If it would be helpful, here is the email that they sent team managers:

Spectators (updated 11/13/2020):
 Spectators shall remain in the car/parking lot until 10 minutes before the start of thegame.
 Signage will be provided and must be adhered to regarding spectator locations for viewing the
matches.
 No congregating in and around the field pre- or post-game to allow for minimizing contactwith
the prior or next game spectators and/or players.
 Each team is allowed 12 spectators to attend per game, this does not have to be the same 12
each game. (this is to stay below the 25 spectator limit in the new VA Governor Executive
Order dated 11/13/2020)
 All 24 spectators will be required to wear a mask at all times.
 Spectators will be required to be behind or the spectator line or at least 10 feet from the field,
whichever is further.
 If at any point the game exceeds the 24 spectators, the game will be stopped until we are back
in compliance with the governor's orders.
 If the game is stopped due to excessive spectators then the clock will continue to run.
 Teams may choose one (1) representative to stream or record the game for the parents unable
to attend. This person counts against the 12 spectator rule. The tournament hosts do not
take any responsibility for this activity.
 Spectators shall maintain 10ft social distancing

If the person streaming the video counts against the 12, why would they limit the number of people who can stream or record the game?

My guess would be a desire to potentially limit the number of people walking about filming rather than staying in one place, but you could contact the tournament and ask them directly.

BRYC U14s ECBL team entered this tournament. Why would they enter this tournament? This is a B or even C level tournament?

...because they are BRYC and not really an elite club anymore.

Because some clubs aren’t traveling outside of the state and aren’t willing to stay anywhere overnight

But there was the Bethesda tournament and McLean tournament to enter. Makes no sense for a "premier" team in the DMV to enter this tournament over the other two. No sense.

Bethesda ended up getting cancelled- they were smart to avoid MoCo. Maybe the McClean tournament conflicted or maybe they would rather play a different weekend, or maybe they were worried about NOVA’s inner suburbs cancelling events too and thought they’d have a better shot with Prince William/Faquier

Or maybe they thought they'd have better success against SYA's 3rd team.

Because at best they would be a division 3 NCSL u14 team.

Honestly, it irritates me that they did. People here are snobs, but my view is that kids on less competitive teams should have the opportunity to have a fun tournament against equally (roughly) matched opponents.

Their U13s entered as well, but had to forfeit so we will never know, but I think the teams they were scheduled to play against were roughly the same level as them.
