They were the only group. Is that unusual? There were multiple practices a week and there was only one group each time.
I'm still not understanding the issue. RMSC has the facility to itself basically at this point. Did anyone have a much larger group before this change? |
| ^Talking about KSAC. |
Maybe they increased the number of swimmers per lane to accommodate more swimmers at that practice and get some time back somewhere else. Our group has been 4/lane for a while, but I know not all groups are. |
| My site, GISC, is not talking about building capacity or limits (25% versus 25 people), overall practice group size, or number of kids in a lane. Not that we need it, we'll find out when we start practice this week. |
| There won't be any meets for the next few months anyhow. Doing fewer practices and reducing risk is probably a good thing. |
+1 |
Do you not read the news???? The county issued an executive order requiring that all "recreational gatherings" be limited to 25 people PER FACILITY. At the KSAC, where you have two pools and 16 lanes, which had been allowed to have 4 swimmers per lane, they've had to cut the total number of swimmers down from 64 to 24 (assuming one coach on deck and no rec staff or lifeguards). As noted above, the issue is with the stupid executive order not with RMSC, which is just following the stupid executive order that let's gyms operate at 25% capacity but limits rec facilities to 25 people (regardless of the size of the facility) the law. For what it's worth, I don't think this schedule will be in place very long. One of two things is going to happen, they will come up with a capacity-based limit based on size of pool or facility OR, they will shut entirely. Sadly, I think the latter is more likely. . . . |

Could you be a bit nicer?
I think the issue is that some groups were already way less than 20 using only one pool. But they are getting moved around or cancelled to make room for probably the advanced swimmers. Juniors seem to be consolidated from 4 groups to 3 which is much less safe. Stupid really for Montgomery County to do this given the results. |
No, they are not. For juniors they recommend 2x/week but they are offering 1 50 minute session. They couldn't even do 1 hour? |
But it is 25 people in the facility, even in set ups with two pools. My kid's subgroups are now ~20/10. I assume there is no one else while the 20 are there. Maybe 1-2 community patron lap spots. And while the group of 10 is there, I assume another practice group also has a group of 10 on the other side. |
In all of these cases, I am sure it was an enormous puzzle and many hours this weekend for everyone involved to figure out what was safe, reasonable and fair. I agree with others, I do not think it will last long, one way or the other. |
Agree. Again, lets just be thankful they are figuring out a way to continue to do this safely, for whatever time remains. |
Well, if your child is that advanced, why don't you move to a different club, find a private facility, or move to a different part of the country. |
I think it depends on the group. Ours were split into smaller groups (we lost a lot of swim time) and we have 2-3 kids per lane, not 4. Generally its been 2 kids per lane. We still don't have any information and our practices were canceled for this week. |
That's more than we are getting. All kids should get the same amount. Regular kids cannot ever catch up or move ahead as they swim much less. Private groups are 2-4 times the cost. many of us cannot afford that. Any suggestions on affordable groups swimming a few times a week? |
