Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I am more impressed by the gals who gain 40 or 50 pounds during the pregnancy and then take it off in a reasonable time thereafter. |
Ha! That is great! |
You ladies rock. I heart you and your blog. Keep it up! |
| I just found very crappy the way they tried to put some Portuguese words in between but ended up mixing with Spanish. |
And they fail to mention that when you're a cokehead, you don't have much of an appetite...so an occasional big mac isn't going to be problematic. |
Ummm....no. I am really surprised by some of the comments on this thread. I know it is anonymous, I know people are speaking in jest to a degree, and I know others are letting off steam....but come on, folks. I think we all want to see healthy babies born, and I hope we all want to see women have the best possible birth experience. Otherwise, who cares how/why/what this person or that person is doing things. Anyone judging others' pregnancy/birth experiences really needs to stop trying to measure up and just do what's best for themselves. |
| her comments didn't bother me. in fact, i think it's awesome that a celebrity had a homebirth and talked positively about her birth experience. she had considerable help, i'm sure, in maintaining her figure throughout (personal chefs, trainers, etc.), but she still did it. i know tons of women who wouldn't eat well during pregnancy regardless because they see that 9 months as a free pass to eat anything and everything. she obviously was dedicated to a natural birth and decided that one of the ways to achieve that goal was to stay in shape and not gain 40-50 pounds. for women who don't care how the baby's born, they're not going to worry about exercising and eating well because a c-section is their failsafe. |
| i also was happy to hear of a celebrity having a home birth and a positive birth experience. i had a home birth too, and even though i did experience pain, it was really wonderful, calm, and much easier and less painful than my first hospital birth. i always feel kind of weird telling people how much i liked my birth. no one wants to hear birth horror stories, but it seems that no one wants to hear about nice births either. |
| She probably said it to annoy Bridget. |

I don't believe the no maternity clothes, unless all she did was run around in Tom's sweats.
I'm not anorexic like her, but I am 5'9" and am a size 4 and do work out. I did not gain until I was about 6 mos along, but towards the end of COURSE I had to wear maternity clothes, there was a 9lb baby and all his fluid protruding out of my body like a watermelon. Ok, so low jeans, RIIIIGHT, they would be down around my ankles without a waist line to hold them up. looks like a maternity shirt to me: http://hollywooddame.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/gisele-bundchen-bump-1.jpg |
I'm Brazilian and I've been pregnant. If you chose the right size you don't need maternity pants. Take a look on how low they sit on your waist:
Anyway, I don't think anybody needs maternity clothing, unless we really want to or unless you're carrying more than one. If I was like her, not a regular office job and stuff I would not need either. Good yoga pants, leggings, comfy work out clothing, and a larger size would easily do the trick. So many tops today look like maternity clothing anyway... |
Well she's benefiting from the fact that empire waist tops are fashionable now. No need for maternity clothes when regular clothes are made like them. I'm actually not surprised she didn't gain much weight. She's just one of those skinny minnies who are just genetically destined to be thin. She's just lucky. But she should probably acknowledge that it's not her superior lifestyle, it's her good DNA. |

11:57, those pants would have fallen down on me in months 8 and 9.
Am I missing something? What's the big deal about admitting to wearing maternity clothes? |
There's no big deal darling. Where we come from they're not popular and the regular clothes are very low cut, that's what I AM talking about. By the way, her sister is also lucky... maybe because they're twins

actually, maternity clothes seem to be an invention of the west. in most countries, women make do with their traditional garb or improvise by wearing larger clothes or tweaking their current clothes in some way to account for the bigger belly.
i found maternity clothes in the us to be built like tents and preferred just buying larger sizes (on a side note, i don't understand why most maternity had to equal bad fabrics and ugly styles either). and i gained 35 lbs so i was not one of these under-average weight gainers. although the way previous posters have made it sound, gaining 40-50 lbs seems like some sort of a cardinal sin that indicates the woman was out of control - ever heard of gestational diabetes or edema? it is interesting but most ever woman i have ever spoken to who comes from a non-western country has felt the same way and has made do with regular clothes. |
