Dog haters and germaphobes

Anonymous

My doctor husband is very hygiene-conscious and has trained our dog not to lick us. Lots of germs there. The dog is not allowed on the furniture, and we wipe his paws after each walk and brush him regularly. He gets plenty of petting and love.

I’m not really judging. If anything, I’m a little bit like this too, or at least used to be. I didn’t used to like dogs. I was a bit of a germaphobe. And I wasn’t really into nature. And I used to travel very “traditionally”. But I think I was a bit sheltered and inexperienced and nervous to go out of my comfort zone.

Haha I love how op mentioned conservative views in the original post. Walked back on it once people called him/her out on it. And then proceeded to say that “I wasn’t even talking about conservative political views to begin with”.

* just a disclaimer that not all Democrats are this close minded. Most of us are normal people who do not judge people based on these silly things.

Ugh you guys keep making this political. The people I am thinking of all happen to be Democrats, FYI. -OP

And she digs herself deeper and deeper into the dog doo-doo...

Um, yeah. Does she even realize that she just basically admitted that she believes that there is a connection between hating nature, being close-minded, having anxiety, hating dogs .. and being a Democrat?? If this is how she describes all her “Democrat” friends and acquaintances, then I have no words.

Train you H to do the same.

Why is it my dog hating friends always beacon my dog and then complain about it.

I say, sit/stay... then they are like "hi molly stay girl" in some shrieky voice and then she runs over to them.

I'm like, do not say "molly" do not "talk baby talk to her".... she understands tones.

If she walks over to you say a simple curt "no" or "bed" and she will not approach you and she will go lay on her bed.

But no, "Hi Molly, good girl, good girl"... like STFU already.

I feel like those Traits tend to circle around other traits like very conservative views and lack of open-mindedness.

Most conservative people I know have and love dogs. ?

I still don’t want your dog jumping on me or licking me if I’m at your house or we are in a public place. And your dog is not welcome in my home or car at all. And I won’t patronize restaurants and stores that have non-service dogs around food.

This.

Same. I love my own, well-trained dog. And would never take him to a store other than a pet store! Seeing them in the grocery store is disgusting.

How surreal that from what I've seen so far, no one in this thread has mentioned the global pandemic.

But of course, on DCUM, there are these pockets where the coronavirus just doesn't exist. Apparently one of those pockets is where a PP who proudly talks about going to the gym and "only washing my hands after using the bathroom and before I eat" must live.

Oh, right! "Don't make everything about the pandemic!" So sorry. Clearly I'm "anxious" as DCUM loves to label everyone who doesn't do as others here would do. Please, carry on with the perspective-free discussion. I just hope the proud non-germaphobes aren't anyone I have to encounter. Maybe they're too busy Out There Living Life, maskless, free, and jogging past me panting hard, with their unleashed dog at their heels. And in the trees. And all over the path. Good times!

Too many irresponsible dog owners in this area, and too many people who like to spread their germs around.

Keep your dogs leashed outside, and wear your masks for COVID people.

Sounds like mental illness. Germo-phobes are called such for an actual reason.

Man it seems I really ruffled some feathers here, so much defensiveness. Woops. And there are some serious reading comprehension fails.

Haha, sure. That is exactly what happened here.

Maybe it is less conservativeness that I am picking up on, and more just ANXIETY. Anxiety over germs, the unpredictable, “bad people”

I’m sorry, OP. But your post is flat out embarrassing. You should really try to get out in the world and meet people. Your lack of critical thinking skills, impulsivity, and fascination to pair certain human traits to political parties shows how far gone you really are. Calculate up all the hours in a day that you consume social media and cut that by half. Your quality of life will increase very quickly.

This, 100%

You don't own a dog but are THIS invested in whether other people do, and feel the need to assign inane traits around it?

Sure.

I am not a germaphobe, but I don't like dogs or cats or other animals inside the house. I never use hand sanitizer or wipe surfaces with Clorox wipes, but I like to keep my house clean (professional cleaner once a week, no outdoor shoes). I love nature and go for hikes, runs, bike rides every week. I travel extensively as well, so it is not comparable with germaphobes. Saying that, we got a dog 4 years ago. I love him to death, but still think he is filthy despite of regular washing and grooming. I think this is my first and last dog.

So, your observation is inaccurate.
