until I see 2 lanes of pavement on major streets, we stay in....I'm not getting stuck behind someone and sitting in the roadway all day with no work-around space...

This is true, and sad. I'm sure there are many children in the area whose families have not/could not have stocked up for the big storm and likely have little to no food at home. Many parents will likely keep their children home tomorrow, but for kids who depend on these meals, I'm glad if the schools can pull through for them.

"will a bunch of angry emails have any effect on Rhee? Will they even be read?"

I highly doubt emails will have an affect but a protest might. like say one that escorts Rhee from her house into her office.

You know how it works: you have a post expressing an opinion about one particular decision and then people chime in saying whether they agree or disagree. Well, in this instance, I just wanted to chime in with the minority viewpoint. Not everybody is going to be pissed that dcps is open tomorrow. You can state your disagreement without going all ballistic on a fairly innocuous posting of my opinion. And no, most people would not describe as selfish or short sighted. Maybe you're justifiably freaking out about tomorrow, and my post seemed a little flippant to you (which was not my intention), but what's the point of your insults. Take a deep breath.

but u were not defending the minority point u were very much so saying screw everyone else as long as i'm out that's what matters

I called you selfish and short sighted. Those were the only "insults." I stand by this assessment. You are not considering the circumstances of others, or what the hardships might be for those who don't live in your neck of the woods. You were only thinking about the impact on you, and dismissed it as silly that schools would be closed. No willingness to consider the safety of others?

Listen my kids have drove me insane and I still wouldn't send them to school tomorrow!

GWU canceled classes tomorrow. but small children are expected to go? this is a joke. i hope the local media outlets start to get on this story. not the post, of course.

I think we need to contact the media and get on this. this is crazy. What is the logic behind this

What do these poor students do all summer and during long breaks from school then?

aren't there poor students in neighboring counties?

You know, I'm a DCPS parent at a low-income school. Nearly 3/4 of the kids are on a free or reduced price lunch. The idea that the schools need to be open to feed them is a, well, joke.

This is DC, a city where parents don't go out when it's raining. Do you really think these kids are going to school tomorrow?

I'm annoyed that Rhee has so little regard for her staff, who will be traveling at great risk tomorrow. The schools will have skeleton staffs and a few kids who could make it.

Another fun fact, about half of DCPS students attend an out-of-boundary school. How in holy heck are they going to make it to school?

This is all about image. Rhee and Fenty have gone too far.

DCPS has a Summer Meals Program (all major cities do)

I understand wanting to make sure that kids who depend on school for meals don't go hungry, but given the condition of most sidewalks and roads this seems like a terrible call - I really hope no kids get hurt trying to get to and from school tomorrow.
