This is another Perry Stein special. Please note in para 1 she says, "... expected to attend the District’s public schools..." In para 3 she says "...enrolled in the District’s traditional public and charter schools..." My lord I wish either she paid attention or they would hire her an editor. Not only is this unclear, but a real reporter would have asked for the breakdown by charter and DCPS.
It is also so funny how the people on this board with an agenda jump straight to a conclusion that matches their narrative. Nevermind the article says, "Instead, many of the unenrolled families the city has contacted said they were confused by the process, Kihn said.". Plus, where exactly are the families who are sooooooooooooooo upset with DL they are leaving going to go? All area schools are still DL. But all means please go forth with your echo chamber |

There are kids without devices or WiFi still.
How were their parents supposed to navigate virtual enrollment? Of course there is an undercount. |
Is it time for Hannity already? |
On line schools and homeschool with tutors. Business is booming. |
You can continue to make these flippant comments but they aren't true and more of the country is waking up to this fact as I see in these threads. People are tired of this act. My kids have been in preschool since June. Nobody's gotten sick and we've worn a mask and taken our temperature daily. You can tell me I'm in the minority (which isn't true) or point to the death stat (normal talking point) but none of it matters and it simply isn't true. There are large portions of this country that have moved on with their lives while you fear mongerers will keep it going. So please tell us we watch too much FoxNews again (which I dont watch by the way).

I’m a strong Democrat but the time to open schools is now. |
You think the three posters on DCUM are representative of a broader movement? That's hilarious. You must be new to DCUM. You sound like DeSantis earlier this year. How'd that turn out, remind me? |

So let’s bring back in those 20,000 students.

| What happens when we get to Thanksgiving and another 1/5 of the kids who managed to successfully enroll have 30+ unexcused absences? Will they be required to repeat? |
The point, genius, is that too many aren't going anywhere. Those are the kids we should all be worried for |
| There are kids in my block who are going back to their home country (Guatemala). The single parent does not speak English. They live in one bedroom of a rowhouse. I’m sure he hasn’t re-enrolled them bc their plan is to go back home. But the date they are leaving keeps shifting. I worry about those kids and others like them. What will become of them? |
| Remember relisha Rudd. Remember the case of the 4 kids whose Mentally ill mom killed them. School also is a social service, a way to track these kids and hopefully keep them safe, alive. I’m a dem but I believe schools must open. |
This has nothing to do with politics. Schools should open AND we need to defund education. Schools cannot be the Catch all for every social problem society does not know how to deal with. It’s not our mission or expertise. Meals should be through social services & rec centers. Same with mental health counseling for families. As tragic as Raleshia Rudd is- the problem was not created by schools & it will not be mitigated by your local 2nd grade teacher |
