Not an idiot. Girls lax parent. As Pp said none of this exists without football. Let’s see what happens. No football, we can all kiss the lax recruiting goodbye. |
| Does anyone know if the NCAA has voted on this yet? |
they vote this week. |
| Informal vote and supporting materials were due last week but PP is correct the final is this Wednesday. Don't worry, it will pass overwhelmingly. Boys will still be 9-1-20, and Girls will be 7-1-21 with the 23's 60 days behind at 9-1-21. Its ridiculous but thats the grave those coaches are digging for themselves. |
How is that not a violation of Title IX? If they change only the women’s date they are treating women and men differently. It should not be allowed on that ground alone, although there are many more reasons to deny the IWLCA petition. |
| It isn’t a violation because IWLCA can do what it wants. It is what the coaches want and they don’t want to recruit 2022’s for multiple reasons. |
How or why is this a title IX violation? Access to scholarships would be the same no matter how the recruitment process takes place. T9 does not address how one sport finds athletes. Lacrosse is already different from other sports. Not all schools offer men’s and women’s programs. Many do not have athletic scholarships at all |
“Informal vote and supporting materials”....can you elaborate? Press on IL reports that D1 Council did not consider the proposal last week, but still could prior to Sep1. https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ncaa-extends-dead-period-questions-remain-around-sept-1-first-contact/56758 |
Title IX requires all aspects- academic and athletic - of schools be equal for men and women (all opportunities for men and women must be equal - which is far greater than just scholarships). To alter just the women’s date and not the men’s create an inequality in the recruting opportunities. . It doesn’t matter what the IWLCA coaches want. What matters is how it affects the students. |

Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Title IX applies to institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Educational programs and activities that receive ED funds must operate in a nondiscriminatory manner. A key area in which recipients (schools) have Title IX obligations is recruitment. By denying girls the same opportunity that boys have to be recruited (for lacrosse in this case) violates the equal opportunity provision of Title IX. The NCAA cannot apply a different rule for boys and girls to one sport. |
| Oh yeah some lawyers talking game on here! |
| So many Title IX lawyers on one message board, and not one of them is aware that the men's and women's lacrosse recruiting calendars are already different at the Division I level and have been for a few years. |
| The IWLCA feels strongly that girls recruiting will be greatly behfitted by going to July 1st the girls don’t need to know where they are going until senior year |
| What is they rush? The girls should just focus on school and not worry on recruiting right now |
