Am I out of touch? Is this what 7 year olds are doing now?

Yeah my teen sets an alarm on their phone. Mommy can’t supervise forever!

They still make alarm clocks

They still make standalone alarm clocks, you know. They're really cheap. And alarm clocks for Nest.

Absolutely NO tiktok allowed for my 9 year old. I check his phone regulary and was horrified at snapshot too. Porn ads everywhere. Deleted it. I'm upset that his dad bought him a new Android phone. I can't monitor it like I did with iPhone.

My 13 yo leaves his phone downstairs at night. My 17 yo does not but he does not leave his downstairs and does not fall asleep to his phone.

For a 7yo? That’s nuts and lazy.

+1.

I have a 7yo DD and most of her friends watch TikTok. I only allow my DD to watch it when I watch with her to control what she sees, so she maybe watches for 10-15 mins 3x per week. She likes the dance and gymnastics videos and could care less about anything else. I don’t let her go to sleep with her iPad so that isn’t an option with us.

My guess is that it varies by school and maybe girls vs boys since most of my friends with sons have zero idea that TikTok exists.

I have a 7 year old boy. He has no idea what TikTok even is. He does watch more YouTube than I'd like, but he does not take his iPad to be with him. Electronics live on the main floor and are plugged in about an hour before bedtime for us to do shower/bath, stories, etc.

My 8 yo wanted tik tok and would not stop begging. So I let him watch with me. My TikTok feed is 95% greys anatomy clips and home improvement. It cured him of asking by boring him with it, which I’m sure will change when he’s back with his friends and he realizes again that TikTok isn’t exclusively for old people.

NOT acceptable. Most families with teens have a screens-in-dock-downstairs rule at night. We do.

My 7 year old has no devices of her own. She watches TV every few days and sometimes peruses cat videos on Instagram with me. That’s it.

I’m doing a lot of things wrong in this parenting game, but your sister is setting her child up for all kinds of health, emotional, and social difficulties in life. I’d consider that abusive neglect.
