I’m a GS 15 fed WFH with 2 little kids. DH is also WFH. I’m working a steady 32 hours/week plus whatever I can squeeze in nights and weekends. I’ve been taking annual leave almost every pay period. |
I feel like this has to be a troll. People are working their tails off at my agency and the GS-15s are definitely working at minimum 50 hours a week from the constant conference calls I see on their schedules and late night emails. |
That was my life as a GS-14. My colleagues and I joked our agency jobs were a form of welfare. |
Yep gs15 work in this household has picked up since covid. Everyone in office is busting tail, so much so that higher ups are tempted to allow more people to work at home since now they're getting our commute time, too. But the higher higher ups are in a rush to get everyone back. |
No gym was supposed to be open until very recently. I guess because she was/is an instructor, she had access to her bootcamp gym and held fitness classes there during the shutdown. It was supposed to be hush hush but word got around, and you could see the background on her Instagram stories. The beach guy has been called out by his own co-workers on FB for missing virtual meetings and calls. He looks busy fishing and boating with his family during the day, not doing work. |
I am a GS-14 program manager and work about 60 hrs/week. It brings a lot of satisfaction, purpose and self-respect. You can chose whatever you want but some things are just not for money. |
I think this a troll thread. I've worked at least 50 hours a week (usually more) since the pandemic started, and we are busier than ever. |
Seriously. Plus, in this work environment, a lot of people are working odd hours. My GS-15 partner is non-supervisory and largely works independently, with few meetings. His preferred work hours are about 5pm to midnight/2am ish depending on workload. I'm a private sector night owl and I also prefer to have kind of a staggered scheduling, checking in as needed throughout the day, but doing the bulk of my "head down, no disturbances" work at night. If a neighbor reported us for being out gardening at noon there would be hell to pay and they would have egg on their face. It's not your business. |
My gs-15 boss worked so many hours. I observed her for 6 years. She almost never worked less than 50-55 hours, ususally more. I think gs-15 supervisor in the government is one of the worst jobs. I was a non supervisory 14 and I worked pretty hard too, but not like my boss did. |
Do they work in intelligence? That definitely can't be done at home! |
Some of it can, some can't. |
You also have no idea what amount of leave they are taking. I took the whole week off next week because I hadn’t used any leave in months, so my neighbors will witness a whole lot of “slacking off” as I enjoy my staycation. |
Agreed. Am sure some take advantage, but most feds I work with are working hard, if not harder, these days. |
Did you even read the original thread? Those FEDs said that themselves about not working. |
I don’t get all the defensiveness from the federal government workers. You should be livid about your lazy colleagues.
My DH worked for the federal government for 12 years, and by the end was supervising over 40 folks (although only 4 direct reports). He constantly complained about underachieving folks in his department and how hard it was to do anything about their lack of work ethic or get them fired. Their laziness was extremely unfair to the folks who did work hard. He felt there were only about 40% of folks in his division who were working their full hours. fWIW, his division was largely lawyers and engineers/scientists, so well paid and well educated folks who were just retired in place. DH went back to private sector, and he believes that the federal government loses a lot of good folks who get tired of carrying the dead weight. Everyone would be better off if those folks were reported. |
