+1 agree with reporting assault; don't agree with anonymous accusations on social media without proof, especially against minors.

I am a mom of a boy and girl, and my DS goes to one of the HS named on that article. My DD will be going there soon. If there is a serious issue of assault and boys who are sexual predators, I dam* well want school administrators to do something about it. But, an anonymous accusation is not the right approach. Did these girls (boys?) tell teachers/parents/administrators about what happened? That's the correct process, not an anonymous social media post.

And I say this as someone who was touched inappropriately when I was in HS.

Except that, even when students do report these incidents, MCPS doesn’t act appropriately.

Remember Damascus? The victim went to the principal and nobody was Held accountable. Remember the Rockville case?

MCPS has a culture of not keeping students safe from sexual assault on their watch. Students see this happen and know they won’t get the support they need from MCPS. MCPS would rather sweep any untoward incidents under the rug.

If it's a sexual assault, it should be reported to the police. That's what the email from MCPS even says.

That's partly why there's a push to expand the Clery Act to cover K-12 schools also. It requires colleges to report to the public about crime on campus -- before they were quietly sweeping it under the rug to not sully the school's reputation.

MCPS sweeps so many incidents under the rug. Or underreports them.

There has been some good local media coverage about this in the past, but MCPS doesn’t really have much oversight and can do whatever it wants.

Did you follow the Damascus story? That is NOT what happened. Admin wanted to keep it away from Police. MCPS even says in its trainings that teachers and coaches and admin are mandated reporters.

But that did NOT happen. And there were no negative consequences for the “mandated reporters” who did not report to the police right away.

Why didn't the parents report it to the police?

I’m really surprised once I went to the Instagram pages how many of these are about staff members and not classmates.

The parents did.

Yes--that is what the victim/their parent should do first.

Blair has a culture of problems like this. Eastern Middle too

Eastern was mentioned in the article, but O don’t see any actual post that said Eastern. Was there one and I missed it?

Also, MCPS wants to do the RESTORATIVE JUSTICE.

Everybody come in, form a circle, talk about it and do the restorative justice process.....No punishment!

And females. I have a son, females are not always the victims.

"The allegations cover a range of issues from a boy’s persistence in asking for nude photos to rape.

On Instagram pages titled “Female at Wootton” and “Female at Einstein,” anonymous submissions are accepted and posted without identifying the victims or the alleged perpetrators.

They detail instances in which a girl says she was hit by her significant other for refusing sex, female students being sexually objectified by classmates, boys sharing nude photos of female students, and rapes at parties or students’ homes.

At least six allegations shared on social media this week involved students at Blair. The accused students were named. In some cases, photographs of the boys were posted.

On Twitter, some students asked Principal Renay Johnson to respond to the allegations made against her students, or to voice her support for the victims. Johnson did not respond.

Instead, she appears to have blocked several people, many of whom are currently students at Blair, preventing them from viewing her profile.

According to MCPS’ “social media best practices,” staff members who use a social media account “in a professional capacity should not block users or delete comments on their own initiative.” "

Bottom line:

If you are a victim of sexual assault and in MCPS, CALL THE POLICE FIRST.

Report it to MCPS later. They will do everything they can to destroy evidence and hide the crime details.

Only one of those posters mentioned a female and it was not a sexual assault.

Falsely accusing a boy is something a girl can get away with without any consequence today. I have been one to believe a girl's claim without reservation until very recently. As a mother of a son (and daughter), I know how destructive a false report can be. This can be very, very damaging. Do not be quick to judge or believe without both sides of each story....

Duke rape case was an excellent case of you shouldn’t always believe the accuser. I realize that minorities are discriminated against but sometimes the majority suffers to because of special protections that nefarious minorities use.
