Not everyone can be 100% educated on every topic and there are no dumb questions. Everyone could have responded in a kinder way. You clearly are the fake supporters of BLM and lets keep our boundaries as they are - we don't need dark people ruining our schools. Take a step back and look at yourselves.

Thanks - OP here - I did poorly word my questions - I am on your side everyone - I am just wondering if there are some idiots out there who will think otherwise......

You need to atone further. Educate yourself about White Privilege and Social Justice

Hmmm. Since you’ve seen the show with the original cast, are you aware that every member of the cast was a minority, except one?

Washington? Jefferson? In the musical, they are so likable and portrayed as heroes and strong leaders.........is this not a contradiction to what is happening in our country today??

"because they are now considered racist?" Omg, go awayyyyy.

Ugh, I hate the superiority complex so many Hamilton lovers have. "We're so woke and anyone who doesn't like this musical is just ignorant, etc. etc."

Grow up. Calling others idiots and ignorant because they aren't fans (or are calling out some very obvious hypocrisy) just makes you look like ignorant idiots.

They will never be satisfied

You’re correct. The people whining about losing white supremacy in American culture are never going to stop trying to turn back the clock. Let them keep Aunt Jemima, they will want their Confederate statues.

If you were really on the right side, you wouldn't talk about people being "removed from history." That's the language used by the right-wing to oppose tearing down statues of people who committed treason in defense of slavery. "Oh, no, they are erasing history! Oh, no, we can't even talk about George Washington anymore!" This is the dumbest kind of fake concern trolling.

I was using the language of the people who I was imagining would have objections -

Who are these people you imagine would be objecting?

Hamilton isn't just a musical about the founding fathers with colorblind casting, it's a reimagining of the founding myths of the US, and if you'll remember, Jefferson comes off very poorly in the show and is put down for being a slaveowner.
I love how Jefferson is portrayed as a vapid show-off. When I went to Monticello, I discovered that this BS about him being an inventor is based on him bringing home clever gadgets from France. He also died in debt that the people he had enslaved were sold off to pay. He struck me as a shallow dilettante.

I mean, I understand that you could be in principle opposed to slavery but not have the courage to free the people you held in bondage. But Washington at least made an effort to free people in his will. If Jefferson really had cared about the people he had enslaved, he should have worked hard to pay his debts before he died so they, too, could have been freed. And that is why I was delighted with the portrayal of Jefferdon in Hamilton.

OP was "asking for a friend."

I am excited to watch it! Saw it live at Kennedy center and can't wait to see it again. Something to look forward to during this crazy time.

OP, cut the BS. If you had seen or listened to Hamilton, you would never in a million years say that Jefferson is portrayed as "likeable" and "heroic." Stop trolling.

I am the ignorant idiot you are talking about in that I have never seen the musical and I am not sure I want to see it (fine, I might watch it on Disney+ but would never pay $200+ for the ticket).
I don’t see any controversy here at all. It’s all part of commercialization of minority struggles, the fight for equality, etc etc. Maybe even class war. What’s better for making something less dangerous than commercializing it, sublimating it. Watch a musical, take down a statue or two and we can be on our merry way again. Anything that brings out a predictable emotion and eventually leads to a controlled catharsis.

The whole thing is but parody.
