Is your club starting back up too?

May want to consider reading the orders set forth by local/state governments. Fairly certain NOVA (and much of VA) is banned from having any team practices, regardless of sport. If your club or coach is suggesting otherwise, I’d seriously consider going elsewhere for you childs development.

The soccer fields in northern Virginia will be re-opened when the region enters Phase 1. That could occur on 5/29 or I think mid June at the latest. Most clubs normally end Spring practice in early June anyways. By the time they would re-start in mid-July or August, the fields should be open with either Phase 1 or Phase 2 activities allowed.

It calls for groups of 8-9 kids with a Coach 12 ft apart. For the younger kids, I just don't see them staying apart from one another. These boys (2008) are like puppies. They love to be with each other and it has been months.

My older son that is 2005 I'm less worried about because they are able to understand and stay apart.

The other factor is that all of the teams practice at this one GIANT complex. The sheer number of parents and nannies and grandparents doing pick up and drop means there are just hundreds of people around. There is usually a 10-20 min car line back-up to get out of the parking lot after practices.

Their policy was for a parent to be there---and they would not release a player until the made eye contact and waved to parent.

I will have to see what it looks like in practice. Drive out and see if I'm comfortable with it.

I do NOT like that we are now seeing the Covid-related kid illness starting to become a problem in many areas. I am cautiously watching those numbers too.

And, no, I am not a 'wrap your kid in a bubble parent' like people in this forum like to call people with any bit of common sense. I work in pathogenic bacterial vaccines with a graduate degree in Microbiology/Immunology so this sh*t is right up my alley.

Yeah. Good. Use your expertise and stay home. Nobody likes any of this. Nobody should be forced to go, nobody should be prevented from going, and nobody should judge others for either decision. Can we all agree there? I think the fireworks start when the judgments and credentializing begin. Legitimizing an opinion about something like this would be as appropriate as a lawyer saying you cannot have opinions about constitutional issues because you are not a lawyer.

People like you still don't understand the basics of transmission and how sneaky this virus is. Unlike most viruses it spreads while you are asymptomatic and you can be asymptomatic for up to 14 days.

You probably think you are also ok to drive drunk too.

I think if Virginia goes into phase 2 but still has school property closed for use, the places that own their own fields could run small camps or practices.

Initially less than 10 per group, no contact, mostly working on individual skills and conditioning. Then ramping up to more traditional team training in mid to late June, then hopefully intra-club and friendly matches over July and August. The club will only proceed with the plan if Virginia state guidelines allow and will adjust accordingly. Are any other clubs talking about getting back to organized in-person activities or are we the guinea pigs?

Ours has basically announced the same thing. Our player has no interest in going next week, he wants to see how it plays out. I will probably drive by and see how serious they are being about masks for coaches, social distancing, etc.

It looks per the recent news that activities won’t resume any sooner.

I should add we’re no longer in the DMV area, but central Virginia

DS’s team is starting tech training June 1: groups of 8 kids, social distanced the entire time, not sharing balls.

Going out now will lock us down again in fall and through the winter. Going out now or in the summer will mean to commit to more than $2K to go back to online training and zoom presentations in the fall.

Locking down now will not make the virus go away. It is designed only to reduce and not eliminate the possibility of infection. Lockdowns will happen again regardless of whether we go out now. Oh. And there are all those other states that make all of this completely moot.

I see a group of five highly advanced kids and two soccer coaches train everyday for four hours at the open field of the FCPS in Mclean right across my house. My wife and I say hi and talk to them during our afternoon walk. This has been going on for at least six weeks, AFAIK. The school security and Fairfax County police drive by everyday but say nothing.

Is there any thought that kids like this be significantly more advanced than the other 95% of kids? My ulittle doesn't go out back to practice unless im with him. Otherwise i run 3 miles while he rides his bike just to attempt to keep some conditioning up. I hope coaches plan to add alot more conditioning training bc DSs has declined alot.

I know the question is should we commit to pay for something that we won’t get? The virus is not going way, if we go out in summer we’ll lock down again in fall. The commuted payment will remain in our CC though and we’ll get online classes instead of games and practice. If most of the clubs didn’t refund for the 2020 Spring season why should we expect that they will in the fall?

We've been told by our club that the hope is to start in late July. I know from my other child's club sport (not soccer) that some fields in our area (Baltimore) are tentatively going to be open and available as of July 1, and they are planning to start practicing in groups of 10 then. When we enter Phase 2, they can have the entire team practicing together.

Most clubs have stated their position on this, which typically provides for at least some refunds.
