| Our club today announced the outline of a plan to begin small group practices on May 29. Initially less than 10 per group, no contact, mostly working on individual skills and conditioning. Then ramping up to more traditional team training in mid to late June, then hopefully intra-club and friendly matches over July and August. The club will only proceed with the plan if Virginia state guidelines allow and will adjust accordingly. Are any other clubs talking about getting back to organized in-person activities or are we the guinea pigs? |
Where are they doing this? Park authority isn't giving out permits and canceled their own summer camps. This is at best highly uninformed and more likely setting them to lose allocations and insurance. |
| summer camps were only cancelled in fairfax and prince william counties? not the rest of virginia.... |
Safe to assume they are not in Fairfax County. If our fields were opened, our clubs would be opening like this, too. |
Arlington too. |
Why? I want the summer off. |
| bethesda is hoping to start up small practices soon |
yes |
actually I shouldn't be so haste to say that. I'm sure EVERY club has multiple plans in place like this. They just haven't released them yet while we're still restricted. |
We're still in phase 0. Can this be done in phase 1 or 2? |
No, you are not. You can stay home. |
true. I have a Ulittle. If my club said they were okayed to start next week. I'd probably give it 2-3 weeks and see how things went. Maybe drive in the car and watch from afar. Then start practices in mid to late June to see if everyone else was still healthy. |
| Lots of clubs are looking to see what they can do once phase 1 hits. I am sure it will depend greatly on if you use county fields (and where those are), school fields (also depending on the county), or if you own/rent private facilities (like Loudoun Soccer Park or Evergreen). It will be interesting to see how it plays out. |
The club referenced above is Barca, so they have Evergreen and Morven, both private facilities not dependent on the park authority for permission. |

Ours sent out a plan for 5/29.
It calls for groups of 8-9 kids with a Coach 12 ft apart. For the younger kids, I just don't see them staying apart from one another. These boys (2008) are like puppies. They love to be with each other and it has been months. My older son that is 2005 I'm less worried about because they are able to understand and stay apart. The other factor is that all of the teams practice at this one GIANT complex. The sheer number of parents and nannies and grandparents doing pick up and drop means there are just hundreds of people around. There is usually a 10-20 min car line back-up to get out of the parking lot after practices. Their policy was for a parent to be there---and they would not release a player until the made eye contact and waved to parent. I will have to see what it looks like in practice. Drive out and see if I'm comfortable with it. I do NOT like that we are now seeing the Covid-related kid illness starting to become a problem in many areas. I am cautiously watching those numbers too. And, no, I am not a 'wrap your kid in a bubble parent' like people in this forum like to call people with any bit of common sense. I work in pathogenic bacterial vaccines with a graduate degree in Microbiology/Immunology so this sh*t is right up my alley. |
