We were told that the new biodegradable plastic bags were the answer. I remember that newspaper recyclers complained because people used to bag their post in newspaper bags. Whatever. Shortly after, apparently the next ice age we were being taught about in school turned into 'global warming' and the plastic bags were seen as environment polluters and we are back to looking for paper bags or recyclable bags that grocery stores will no longer allow because of the COVID threat.

You are an incredible fool. Don't you see the evidence for global warming all around you? Melting glaciers, hottest years on record, australia and california on fire?
there have been 8 ice ages in the past million years . How do you think the warmups happened ?

Debating a nickel bag fee with a climate-change denier, what a lovely way to start the day!

I bring my own bag still and bag my own groceries, Grew up doing the same thing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ask the Koch brothers to contribute the nickels for your throw-away plastic bags.

So this dude is just stating that he remembers the switch from global cooling to global warming. I do as well, though I was living in SoCal at the time. We were all worried about expanding ice caps. Anyway, I am not sure that he was trying to throw water on anything just stating that the plastic vs paper bag guidance continues to change as well. Why are we crushing him/her again?

I like my reusable bags, though I must say I have always wondered how they could possibly be as hygienic as disposable. I like the fashion aspect of reusable (my bags are crazy sushi and Japanese anime food. People seem to like to comment on them.) But with COVID now, I have not been using them as stores will no longer allow you to put them on counters etc.

"We" were not "all worried." Even then, there were already plenty of scientists who were worried about warming. But Time and Newsweek wrote some pieces about global cooling. That's probably what you remember.

It wasn't just a couple of quacks. It was all the media reported on back then. Well, also about the hole in the ozone layer.

The hole in the ozone layer was in the news because there was a hole in the ozone layer, caused by chlorofluorocarbons.

The hole in the ozone layer has shrunk because the world (mostly) stopped using chlorofluorcarbons.

When the climate-deniers keep citing the same few articles that appeared in newspapers/news magazines, that suggests two things:

1. There weren't that many articles about it in newspapers/news magazines.
2. It wasn't in scientific journals.

I remember those stories in the 70's. I was younger but my family owned a ranch in FL at the time and the stories all talked about global starvation as the temperatures got cooler and crops would fail and livestock die. As a kid I was terrified that our cattle would die. But I was also fascinated with the chance of walking an ice bridge from North America to Europe. I am not sure I understood what an ice bridge was at the time but it sounded exciting.

Anyway, we had our paper bags replaced by plastic as well in the name of saving the trees.

Except China, which is using enough to completely negate the efforts the rest of the world has made, all by themselves

I am ok with MoCo's decision. Wash your bags OR let it be in the sun for 1-2 days or Lysol it.

Thank you, MoCo.

Obviously they were all Trump’s fault. I’m sure they’re saying as much in schools right now.

Imagine that.
