“Bag tax” is an unholy combination of the government letting merchant charge for bags that used to be free and then using the merchants to collect the government’s cut, while the merchants get to blame the government for what actually a price increase on the merchants’ part.
Hogan should step in on this nonsense and stop reusable bags. While he’s at it he could tell them to switch to renewable and biodegradable paper bags, if anybody’s really worried about the environment. |
+1, I'd like to know how all that money is spend. Merchants are paying for the bags. The fee should go to the merchant. No bags were ever free. Someone had to pay for them which was the merchant. |
| Next step is they’ll ban plastic bags like NY did |
| I thought the bag tax was a huge PITA when it was first introduced, but now I think it's a great thing. It's really curbed the amount of plastic bags I use. I think it's a stroke of genius. Maybe go to paper bags until this all ends. |
i used to work at giant . Stores were forced to switch from paper to plastic . It’s horrible and it mandates worse service as cashiers now take longer to bag things as they don’t bag as they go anymore |
| And they’ll ban all single use bags you won’t have any choice |
| reusable bags are disgusting. |
remember they chose tax money over human lives |
what are you talking about? They're protecting the environment. This will pass. If it lasts forever, then let's reconsider. So dramatic. |
people will die from covid and reusables transmit it |
So do the cans of spaghetti-os (or whatever) you're buying. But, if you think that re-usable bags are disgusting, you continue to have the option of paying five cents to get a single-use bag. |
abd what of poor people? |
|
Who pays for bags? You use the self check out, use as many as you want and then click 0 used. Then after you pay, double bag always. As the 5c bags are cheap garbage that rip on the way to the car.

I prefer them to the flimsy plastic bags that Giant uses. At the average Giant, most of the time paper isn’t even an option! |
